Tigers Beat Westran With Improbable Finish

The Kirksville Tigers won a thriller over Westran Wednesday night at the Macon Shootout 47-45. KHS led 31-30 in the fourth before the Hornets went on a 7-0 run to take a 37-31 lead. That’s when Cole Kelly, playing with foul trouble, took the game over. Kelly scored 15 points in the fourth period including three 3-pointers to tie the game at 45. Westran had a chance to take a late lead at the free throw line, but Brady Hollman missed both attempts with 2 seconds left.. Kelly got fouled on the rebound and the officials called it intentional. Kelly went to the other end of the floor, standing all by himself at the stripe and calmly sank both free throws with 8 tenths of a second remaining. KHS took the ball out of bounds after the intentional foul, Westran stole the pass, but the shot got caught up the rafters and KHS wins a thriller 47-45. Gavin Pike was the other Tiger in double figures with 10. KHS climbs to 8-4 on the year and they will be part two of Friday’s double header at Mexico.
