The Mizzou men’s basketball team could not fend off the upset, on Sunday. Jackson State pulled of a 73-72 win over MU at Mizzou Arena.
The away Tigers stayed within striking distance the entire game. With less than one minute to play, Jackson State had an open door, as it was a two point game after freshman Jordan Butler missed both free throws.
Jackson State capitalized on the opportunity. In the final 20 seconds, MU turned the ball over and allowed the other Tigers to tie the ball game up at 71 points apiece. Nick Honor, the team’s leading scorer, hit one of his two free throws, after getting fouled following that game-tying bucket, to make it a 72-71 game.
That one shot from Honor was not enough, though, as Jackson State’s Chase Adams charged down the court and hit a game-winning fadeaway with less than 10 seconds on the clock.
With the loss, Mizzou drops to 3-2 to start the season.
Up next – Mizzou will stay home to host South Carolina State on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Tip off is at 6 p.m.
