MLB WILD CARD SERIES…
Texas 7 – TAMPA BAY 1… The Rangers rolled past the Rays to complete a sweep of their best-of-three AL wild card series and advance to take on Baltimore in the AL Division Series beginning on Saturday. Adolis Garcia’s leadoff homer sparked a four-run top of the fourth inning. Josh Jung tripled home a run and Evan Carter smacked a two0run homer. Marcus Semien and Corey Seager produced run-scoring doubles in the sixth. Nathan Eovaldi allowed just a run on six hits over 6-2/3 innings.
MINNESOTA 2 – Toronto 0… The Twins clipped the Rays to sweep the AL wild card series and move on to battle Houston in the ALDS beginning on Saturday. Sonny Gray tossed five-hit ball over five innings and five relievers maintained the shutout. Carlos Correa singled home a run and Willi Castro added a run-scoring grounder as Minnesota scored the game’s only runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Arizona 5 – MILWAUKEE 2 – Arizona… The Diamondbacks overcame an early two-run deficit to finish off a sweep of the Brewers in the NL wild card series and advance to take on the L.A. Dodgers in the NL Division Series starting on Saturday. Ketel Marte stroked a go-ahead two-run single in the top of the sixth inning. Zac Gallen shook off a rough start to turn in a solid six-inning effort on the mound.
PHILADELPHIA 7 – Miami 1… The Phillies rolled past the Marlins to take the NL wild card series in two games and move on to face Atlanta in the NL Division Series starting on Saturday. Kyle Schwarber doubled home a run and scored in the bottom of the third inning. J.T. Realmuto homered to lead off the fourth and Bryson Stott unloaded a grand slam in the sixth. Aaron Nola tossed three-hit ball over seven scoreless innings..
