NATIONAL LEAGUE
MILWAUKEE 3 – St. Louis 0… William Contreras singled home Christian Yelich in the bottom of the first inning with the only run the NL Central-champion Brewers needed in their blanking of the Cardinals. Yelich had a couple of hits, including a run-scoring single. Corbin Burnes and Julio Teheran worked four innings each before Ethan Small worked the ninth.

Pittsburgh 3 – PHILADELPHIA 2… Jared Triolo produced a pair of RBI doubles and Jack Suwinski singled home a run as the Pirates edged a Phillies team that is headed to the playoffs as the NL’s top wild card. Luis Ortiz (5-5) gave up a run on four hits over five innings.

ATLANTA 5 – Chi. Cubs 3… Matt Olson hit his major league-leading 53rd home run with a runner aboard in the bottom of the first inning to give the NL East-champion Braves the lead for good as they completed a series sweep that dimmed the Cubs’ postseason hopes. Michael Harris II doubled home a run and scored on Ronald Acuña Jr.’s single in the second.

COLORADO 14 – L.A. Dodgers 5… The Rockies overcame an early two-run deficit o roll past the NL West-champion Dodgers. Nolan Jones’ tie-breaking RBI grounder sparked a four-run bottom of the fourth inning. Brenton Doyle lined a two-run double and legged out a two-run triple. Elehuris Montero went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and four runs scored. Charlie Blackmon and Sean Bouchard hit solo homers.

Miami 2 – N.Y. METS 1 (susp.)… The Marlins scored twice in the top of the ninth inning before rain forced suspension of their game with the Mets. It will resume Monday in New York if necessary. Miami holds a half-game lead over the Chicago Cubs for the third NL Wild Card spot, and remained 1 1/2 games ahead of Cincinnati.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
BALTIMORE 2 – Boston 0… Dean Kremer (13-5) pitched two-hit ball over 5-1/3 innings and four relievers shut the door as the Orioles clipped the Red Sox and clinched their first AL East title since 2014. The victory also sends idol Tampa Bay to the postseason as the AL’s top wild card. Anthony Santander’s solo homer in the bottom of the first inning provided the only run Baltimore needed. Heston Kjerstad doubled home a run in the fourth.

Oakland 2 – MINNESOTA 1… Ryan Noda led off the top of the eighth inning with a tie-breaking homer and the Athletics hung on to edge the AL Central-champion Twins. Both teams managed just four hits in the contest.

TORONTO 6 – N.Y. Yankees 0… The Blue Jays shut out the Yankees to move a full game ahead of Houston in the race for the AL’s second wild card. Chris Bassitt (16-8) allowed just five hits over 7-2/3 innings before giving way to two relievers. Brandon Belt blasted a three-run homer and Toronto got solo shots from Matt Chapman and Daulton Varsho.

SEATTLE 3 – Texas 2… J.P. Crawford’s two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Mariners a dramatic win that kept their playoff hopes alive and prevented the Rangers from clinching the AL West title. Seattle trails Toronto by two games in the race for the AL’s second wildcard. Texas leads Houston by two games atop the division.

DETROIT 8 – Kansas City 0… The Tigers finished off the Royals in a contest that was suspended due to rain on Wednesday night with the Tigers leading 6-0 in the sixth inning. Jake Rogers capped the scoring with a two-run homer in the eighth.

DETROIT 7 – Kansas City 3… The Tigers came alive to score all seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and erase a 3-0 deficit on their way past the Royals. Spencer Torkelson’s three-run homer capped the uprising. Matt Vierling stroked a two-run single.

INTERLEAGUE
CHI. WHITE SOX 3 – Arizona 1… The White Sox eased past the Diamondbacks and prevented them from clinching a playoff spot in the makeup of a game rained out on Monday. Andrew Vaughn homered with a runner aboard in the bottom of the second inning and Yoan Moncada went deep to lead off the fourth. Starter Touki Toussaint limited Arizona to a run on three hits over four innings and four relievers provided hitless relief.
