MLB Scores Sunday 9-24

NATIONAL LEAGUE
WASHINGTON 3 – Atlanta 2… Jackson Rutledge allowed just a run on three hits over five innings and the Nationals held off the Braves in the opener of a doubleheader. Jacob Young doubled home the decisive run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Josh Bell also went deep. Bryan de La Cruz produced a two-run single.

Atlanta 8 – WASHINGTON 5… The Braves came from three runs down to get past the Phillies and claim a split of the twinbill. Kevin Pillar’s two-run homer capped a four-run top of the fourth inning. Forrest Wall added a two-run homer and Orlando Arcia singled home two runs for Atlanta.

MIAMI 6 – Milwaukee 1… Edward Cabrera (7-7) held the Brewers to a run on five hits over five innings and the Marlins cruised to the win. Jon Berti homered twice and drove in three runs.

CINCINNATI 4 – Pittsburgh 2… The Reds eased past the Pirates after spotting them an early two-run lead. TJ Friedl hit a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning and singled home a go-ahead run in the seventh. Christian Encarnacion-Strand also went deep for Cincinnati.

CHI. CUBS 4 – Colorado 3… Patrick Wisdom’s go-head two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the Cubs edged the Rockies. Yan Gomes knocked in Chicago’s other two runs with a double and a sacrifice fly.

SAN DIEGO 12 – St. Louis 2… Juan Soto belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to stake the Padres to an early lead and added an RBI double in their thrashing of the Cardinals. Eguy Rosario contributed a two-run double.

PHILADELPHIA 5 – N.Y. Mets 2… J.T. Realmuto stroked a two-run single and Nick Castellanos blasted a two-run homer during a four-run bottom of the fourth inning that carried the Phillies past the Mets. Cristofer Sánchez (3-5) allowed two runs on three hits over seven innings.

L.A. DODGERS 3 – San Francisco 2 (10 innings)… Chris Taylor singled home Amed Rosario with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Dodgers outlasted the Giants. James Outman homered with a runner aboard in the second to give L.A. an early lead that it couldn’t hold.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Toronto 9 – TAMPA BAY 5… George Springer’s tie-breaking three-run inside-the-park homer in the top of the second inning gave the Blue Jays the lead for good in their win over the Rays. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a pair of solo homers. Bo Bichette also went deep.

Chi. White Sox 3 – BOSTON 2 (6 innings)… The White Sox fought off the Red Sox in a game shortened by rain after 6-1/2 innings. Elvis Andrus hit a two-run double and lifted a sacrifice fly for Chicago. Mike Clevinger (9-8) surrendered two runs on five hits over six innings.

Baltimore 5 – CLEVELAND 1… Kyle Gibson (15-9) limited the Guardians to a run on five hits over seven innings and the Orioles cruised to the victory. Jordan Westburg’s run-scoring double sparked a three-run top of the second inning. Adley Rutschman and Jorge Mateo each had a couple of hits and an RBI.

MINNESOTA 9 – L.A. Angels 3… Trevor Larnach’s infield grounder brought home a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Twins scored five more times in the seventh to bury the Angels. Max Kepler and Ryan Jeffers each hit two-run homers in the big inning.

Kansas City 6 – HOUSTON 5… The Royals built a 6-2 lead after 2-1/2 innings and hung on to edge the Astros. Nelson Velázquez hit a pair of solo homers and Kansas City got solo shots from Matt Duffy and Salvador Perez.

TEXAS 9 – Seattle 8… Evan Carter’s two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Rangers a four-run lead and they hung on to top the Mariners. Leody Taveras and Cory Seager also cracked two-run homers for Texas. Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia hit solo shots.

Detroit 2 – OAKLAND 0… Eduardo Rodríguez (12-9) pitched five-hit ball over seven innings before two Tigers relievers completed the shutout of the Athletics. Spencer Torkelson provided all the offense Detroit needed with a two-run single in the top of the third inning.

INTERLEAGUE
Arizona 7 – N.Y. YANKEES 1… Zac Gallen (17-8) pitched three-hit ball over six scoreless innings and the Diamondbacks breezed past the Yankees. Evan Longoria lined a two-run single. Christian Walker also drove in two runs.
