The Kirksville Tigers played outstanding defense in beating the Marshall Owls Friday 28-10. Kirksville overcame three Ryder Lyons interceptions by picking off Marshall quarterback Chase Thompson four times. Kirksville got on the board first on a 12 yard TD to Tony Tiberi-Ramos on a ball that went through the hands of at least two other Tiger receivers. The kick made it 7-0 midway through the first period. The Tigers held Marshall out of the end zone three times in the first half, forcing a 28 yard field goal on one of those occasions midway through the second quarter. It remained 7-3 at the break. The Tigers set the tone early in the third by forcing Marshall into a three-and-out on the opening possession, then Jace Kent scored the first of his first two touchdowns on an 11 yard run on Kirksville’s ensuing possession making it 14-3. Near the end of the third, Jack Thomas scored on a 32 yard reception to make it 21-3. Early in the fourth, Kent found the end zone again on a four yard run to make it 28-3. The Owls scored their only touchdown on their next possession, a 52 yard catch and run to Steven Caviness, but the Tigers go on to win it 28-10. Kent carried the ball 20 times for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Lyons finished with 64 rushing yards and was 11 out of 21 through the air with two touchdowns. Kirksville climbs to 2-3 on the year and 1-1 in the NCMC. Next, it’s a trip to Hannibal next Friday. The Pirates throttled Mexico 61-7.
