Kansas City – CHI. WHITE SOX (ppd)… Rain in Chicago forced postponement of last night’s Royals-White Sox game. It will be made up today as part of a doubleheader.
Atlanta 10 – PHILADELPHIA 8 (10 innings)… Kevin Pillar singled home a tie-breaking run in the top of the 10th inning and scored on Orlando Arcia’s double as the Braves outlasted the Phillies in the opener of a doubleheader. Michael Harris II homered with a runner aboard and Ronald Acuña followed with a solo shot in the sixth to give Atlanta a four-run lead that it couldn’t hold. Matt Olson contributed a two-run double.
PHILADELPHIA 7 – Atlanta 5… The Phillies jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and held off the Braves to claim a split of the twinbill. Edmundo Sosa stroked a two-run double. Brandon Marsh smacked a solo homer. Atlanta’s Matt Olson homered twice to reach 50 for the season and drove in four runs, but it wasn’t enough.
Washington 6 – PITTSBURGH 2… CJ Abrams homered twice and knocked in three runs to lead the Nationals past the Pirates. Domonic Smith also went deep. Patrick Corbin (10-15) allowed two runs on five hits over 6-2/3 innings.
Arizona 4 – N.Y. METS 3… Ketel Marte doubled home Lane Thomas with a tie-breaking run in the top of the ninth inning and the Diamondbacks made it stand in edging the Mets. Tommy Pham tied the game with a homer to lead off the eighth.
MILWAUKEE 12 – Miami 0… Brandon Woodruff (5-1) tossed a complete-game six-hit shutout and got plenty of support in the Brewers’ bombing of the Marlins. Mark Canha provided all the offense Milwaukee needed with a homer to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Willy Adames went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Chi. Cubs 5 – COLORADO 4… Yan Gomes’ two-run single in the top of the ninth inning sent the Cubs past the Rockies. Gomes finished with three hits and three RBIs on the night. Christopher Morel hit a solo homer.
San Diego 11 – L.A. DODGERS 8… The Padres came from five runs down to upend the Dodgers. Juan Soto cracked a tie-breaking three-run homer and Xavier Bogaerts smacked a solo shot during a four-run top of the ninth inning. Manny Machado homered twice and drove in three runs.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Texas 10 – TORONTO 4… Jonah Heim unloaded a grand slam to cap a five-run top of the seventh inning and bury the Blue Jays. Heim also doubled home a run. Evan Carter homered for Texas.
Tampa Bay 7 – MINNESOTA 4… Tyler Walls’ three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning helped power the Rays past the Twins. Yandy Diaz also went deep for Tampa Bay. Josh Lowe had three hits, including a run-scoring single.
Oakland 4 – HOUSTON 0… Three pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Athletics blanked the Astros. Ken Waldichuk (3-7) came on in the third and held Houston hitless over six innings to get the win. Ryan Noda, Brent Rooker and Shea Langeliers hit solo homers for Oakland.
L.A. Angels 8 – SEATTLE 5 (11 innings)… Randal Grichuk, Jordyn Adams and Nolan Schanuel produced run-scoring singles in the top of the 11th inning to push the Angels past the Mariners. Logan O’Hoppe homered twice and knocked in runs for L.A. Brandon Drury and Seattle’s Julio Rodriguez exchanged two-run homers in the 10th.
N.Y. Yankees – BOSTON (ppd)… Rain in Boston forced postponement of last night’s Yankees-Red Sox game. It will be made up today as part of a doubleheader.
INTERLEAGUE
BALTIMORE 11 – St. Louis 5… Cedric Mullins blasted a grand slam during a five-run bottom of the fifth inning that gave the Orioles the lead for good in their win over the Cardinals. Gunnar Henderson also went deep. Austin Hayes capped the scoring with a two-run single in the ninth.
SAN FRANCISCO 5 – Cleveland 4 (10 innings)… Run-scoring singles by Blake Sabol and LaMont Wade Jr. in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Giants over the Guardians. Mike Yastrzemski homered to lead off the first for San Francisco.
