MLB Scores Tuesday 9-5

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Milwaukee 7 – PITTSBURGH 3… The Brewers buried the Pirates with a six-run top of the fifth inning. Brandon Woodruff (4-1) pitched two-hit ball over seven scoreless innings.

MIAMI 6 – L.A. Dodgers 3… Bryan De La Cruz hit a tie-breaking two-run homer and Jazz Chisholm Jr. followed with a solo shot as the Marlins doubled up on the Dodgers. Josh Bell also homered with a runner aboard and Jake Burger added a solo homer.

N.Y. Mets 11 – WASHINGTON 5… Francisco Alvarez blasted a three-run homer to cap a four-run top of the first inning and Francisco Lindor’s leadoff homer sparked a three-run third as the Mets pounded the Nationals. Brandon Nimmo homered twice with the bases empty. Pete Alonso also went deep. Brett Baty contributed a two-run single.

St. Louis 10 – ATLANTA 6… Tyler O’Neill connected for a tie-breaking two-run homer in the top of the second inning and the Cardinals went on to down the Braves.   Nolan Gorman homered twice and knocked in three runs. Jordan Walker also went deep.

CHI. CUBS 11 – San Francisco 8… The Cubs overcame an early three-run deficit to slug their way past the Giants. Christopher Morel blasted a three-run homer. Seiya Suzuki went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and a run-scoring single.

Colorado 3 – ARIZONA 2… Kyle Freeland (6-14) held the Diamondbacks to two runs on six hits over six innings and three relievers did the rest as the Rockies held on for the win. Nolan Jones doubled home a run in the top of the first inning and drew a bases-loaded walk in the third. Charlie Blackmon’s sixth-inning sacrifice fly proved decisive.

SAN DIEGO 8 – Philadelphia 0… Pedro Avila (1-2) tossed two-hit ball over 6-2/3 innings and two Padres relievers completed the shutout of the Phillies. Fernando Tatis Jr.’s homer to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning provided the only run San Diego needed. Luis Campusano had a couple of hits and drove in three runs.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
N.Y. YANKEES 5 – Detroit 1… Gerrit Cole (13-4) held the Tigers to a run on eight hits over six innings and the Yankees cruised to the win. DJ LeMahieu hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning and Giancarlo Stanton added a two-run shot in the sixth. Gleyber Torres stroked a two-run double.

Minnesota 8 – CLEVELAND 3… Donovan Solano’s bases-clearing triple capped a five-run top of the eighth inning that carried the Twins past the Guardians. Christian Vazquez had a couple of hits, including a solo homer.

TAMPA BAY 8 – Boston 6 (11 innings)… Brandon Lowe belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Rays a dramatic walkoff win over the Red Sox. Jonathan Aranda tripled home a run and Rene Pinto hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning as Tampa Bay jumped out to a three-run lead that it couldn’t hold.

KANSAS CITY 7 – Chi. White Sox 6… The Royals came from six runs down to stun the White Sox. Bobby Witt Jr. doubled home a tying run and Maikel Garcia scored the winning run on a balk in the bottom of the ninth inning. MJ Melendez singled home a run and hit a solo homer. Nelson Velázquez and Michael Massey also homered with the bases empty.

Houston 14 – TEXAS 1… The Astros scored three runs in each of their first three at-bats and coasted past the Rangers. José Altuve smacked three solo homers. Martin Maldonado homered twice with a runner aboard. Yordan Alvarez also went deep. Framber Valdez (11-9) allowed a run on six hits over seven innings.

Toronto 7 – OAKLAND 1… Kevin Kiermaier’s run-scoring single in the top of the seventh broke a scoreless tie and sparked a six-run rally that carried the Blue Jays past the Athletics. George Springer singled twice and knocked in three runs. Chris Bassitt (11-7) gave up a run on seven hits over eight innings.

Baltimore 5 – L.A. ANGELS 4 (10 innings)… Jordan Westburg’s infield grounder scored Austin Hayes with a tie-breaking run in the top of the 10th inning and the Orioles made it stand in outlasting the Angels. Ryan Mountcastle produced a pair of run-scoring singles for Baltimore.

INTERLEAGUE
CINCINNATI 7 – Seattle 6… Pinch-hitter Nick Martini came through with a game-tying three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning and Christian Encarnacion-Strand singled home Elly De La Cruz with the winning run in the ninth as the Reds came from behind to top the Mariners. Encarnacion-Strand and Noelvi Marte hit solo homers in the sixth.
