MLB Scores Tuesday 8-22

NATIONAL LEAGUE
PHILADELPHIA 4 – San Francisco 3… Trea Turner’s two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Phillies a walkoff win over the Giants. Bryce Harper put Philadelphia on the board with a two-run homer in the first.

PITTSBURGH 6 – St. Louis 3… Bryan Reynolds doubled home two runs and Andrew McCutchen homered with a runner aboard during a five-run bottom of the fifth inning and the Pirates went on to double up on the Cardinals. Johan Oviedo (7-13) allowed a run on four hits over five innings.

ATLANTA 3 – N.Y. Mets 2… Eddie Rosario’s two-run homer and Marcell Ozuna’s solo shot gave the Braves a 3-0 lead after five innings and they held on to top the Mets. Bryce Elder (10-4) gave up just a run on two hits over 5-1/3 innings.

Miami 3 – SAN DIEGO 0… Jesús Luzardo (9-8) tossed two-hit ball over six innings and got help from three relievers in the Marlins’ blanking of the Padres. Jorge Soler smacked a solo homer as Miami scored all three runs in the top of the third inning.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Toronto 6 – BALTIMORE 3 (10 innings)… Brandon Belt cracked a tie-breaking two-run homer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 10th inning as the Blue Jays outlasted the Orioles. Daulton Varsho also homered with a runner aboard for Toronto.

HOUSTON 7 – Boston 3… Justin Verlander (9-6) scattered five hits over six scoreless innings and three Astros relievers did the rest in the win over the Red Sox. Kyle Tucker got things going offensively with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Jon Singleton’s two-run double capped a four-run seventh.

Seattle 6 – CHI. WHITE SOX 3… J.P. Crawford’s RBI single in the top of the second inning gave the Mariners the lead for good in their defeat of the White Sox. Josh Rojas added a two-run homer in the fourth.

OAKLAND 5 – Kansas City 4… Aledmys Diaz lifted a sacrifice fly and doubled home two runs as the Athletics eased past the Royals. Shea Langeliers smacked a solo homer.

INTERLEAGUE
DETROIT 8 – Chi. Cubs 6… Andy Ibañez homered twice and knocked in four runs to lead the Tigers past the Cubs. Kerry Carpenter singled home a run and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

TAMPA BAY 12 – Colorado 4… Oseleivis Basabe unloaded a grand slam to cap the Rays’ nine-run bottom of the eighth inning and bury the Rockies. Yandy Diaz and Isaac Paredes both had three hits and knocked in two runs. Randy Arozarena contributed a two-run single.

Washington 2 – N.Y. YANKEES 1… A.J. Abrams connected for a tie-breaking two-out solo homer in the top of the eighth inning and the Nationals hung on to edge the Yankees. Carter Kieboom homered to lead off the third. The game featured a duel between Washington starter Josiah Gray and his counterpart Carlos Rodón, but neither got a decision.

CLEVELAND 8 – L.A. Dodgers 3… The Guardians rolled past the Dodgers after spotting them a three-run lead. Bobby Kwan singled home a tie-breaking run, José Ramírez added an RBI single and both scored on Kole Calhoun’s three-run homer during a five-run bottom of the seventh inning.

MILWAUKEE 7 – Minnesota 3… The Brewers rallied past the Twins with a five-run bottom of the sixth inning. Brian Anderson capped the uprising with a two-run single. Willy Adames slugged a two-run homer in the first.

Cincinnati 4 – L.A. ANGELS 3… Spencer Steer’s run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning proved to be the difference as the Reds held off the Angels. Matt McLain homered with the bases empty in the first. Graham Ashcraft (7-8) allowed three runs on five hits and struck out 10 over seven innings.

ARIZONA 6 – Texas 3… Corbin Carroll and Gabriel Moreno both had a couple of hits and an RBI as the Diamondbacks handled the Rangers. Zac Gallen (14-5) limited Texas to a run on seven hits and fanned 11 over six innings.
