MLB Scores Sunday 8-21

NATIONAL LEAGUE
San Francisco 4 – ATLANTA 3… Joc Pederson drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the ninth inning to force home Michael Conforto with the tie-breaking run and the Giants made it stand in downing the Braves. Luis Matos homered to lead off the second inning and Wilmer Flores added a two-run shot in the third.

ST. LOUIS 7 – N.Y. Mets 3… Willson Contreras singled home a run to spark a four-run bottom of the seventh inning that carried the Cardinals past the Mets. Paul Goldschmidt singled home a run and homered with a runner aboard to account for St. Louis’ first three runs. Dakota Hudson (5-0) allowed two runs on five hits over 5-1/3 innings.

WASHINGTON 4 – Philadelphia 3… The Nationals scored all four runs in the bottom of the first inning and withstood a ninth-inning rally to edge the Phillies. Keibert Ruiz doubled home two runs and Domonic Smith slapped a two-run single. Trevor Williams (6-7) tossed two-hit ball over six scoreless innings.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Seattle 7 – HOUSTON 6… Dylan Moore singled home Mike Ford in the top of the fifth inning with what proved to be the decisive run as the Mariners held off the Astros.  Eugenio Suárez hit a two-run homer and Brian O’Keefe doubled home two runs for Seattle.

Boston 6 – N.Y. YANKEES 5… Justin Turner belted a tie-breaking three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning and added a decisive run-scoring double in the ninth as the Red Sox dealt the Yankees their eighth straight loss. Rafael Devers homered with the bases empty in the first.

Detroit 4 – CLEVELAND 1… Spencer Torkelson’s two-run homer in the top of the first inning provided all the offense the Tigers needed in their win over the Guardians. Kerry Carpenter smacked a leadoff homer and Akil Baddo singled home a run in the seventh. Eduardo Rodriguez (9-6) surrendered a run on four hits over 6-2/3 innings.

Baltimore 12 – OAKLAND 1… Kyle Bradish (8-6) pitched two-hit ball over six scoreless innings and got plenty of support in the Orioles’ thrashing of the Athletics. Ryan Mountcastle blasted a three-run homer. Gunnar Henderson hit a solo homer and doubled home a run. Jorge Mateo legged out an inside-the-park homer.

INTERLEAGUE
Toronto 10 – CINCINNATI 3… Brandon Belt homered twice and knocked in three runs as the Blue Jays pounded the Reds. George Springer added a two-run shot and Bo Bichette connected to lead off the top of the fourth inning. Hyun Jin Ryu (2-1) held Cincinnati to a pair of unearned runs on four hits over five innings.

MINNESOTA 2 – Pittsburgh 0… Dallas Keuchel (1-1) took a perfect game into the seventh inning and combined with three relievers in shutting out the Pirates. Edouard Julien drove in both Minnesota runs with a sacrifice fly and a double.

CHI. CUBS 4 – Kansas City 3… Kyle Hendricks (5-6) held the Royals to a run on five hits over 6-1/3 innings and the Cubs held on for the victory. Ian Happ tripled home a run and scored on Cody Bellinger’s sacrifice fly in the first. Seiya Suzuki and Miguel Amaya added solo homers.

Milwaukee 6 – TEXAS 2… The Brewers eased past the Rangers to complete a three-game sweep. Tyrone Taylor lined a two-run triple and scored on Carlos Santana’s single in the top of the eighth inning. Adrian Houser (5-4) allowed a run on six his over five innings.

Chi. White Sox 10 – COLORADO 5… The White Sox erupted to score seven runs in the top of the eighth inning and bury the Rockies. Lenyn Sosa’s three-run homer capped the uprising. Andrew Vaughn opened the scoring with a homer to lead off the second.
