NATIONAL LEAGUE
Philadelphia 4 – MIAMI 2… Newly acquired Michael Lorenzen (6-7) limited the Marlins to two runs on six hits over eight innings and the Phillies held on for the win. J.T. Realmuto homered with a runner aboard in the top of the second inning and Brandon Marsh’s two-run single in the seventh proved decisive.
SAN FRANCISCO 1 – Arizona 0… LaMonte Wade Jr.’s homer to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning accounted for the game’s only offense as the Giants clipped the Diamondbacks. Six San Francisco pitchers blanked Arizona on six hits.
MILWAUKEE 14 – Pittsburgh 6… Brice Turang and Sal Frelick blasted three-run homers to highlight the Brewers’ pounding of the Pirates. Frelick also lined a two-run double. Christian Yelich went 3-for-4 with a pair of run-scoring singles for Milwaukee, which moved into first place in the NL Central.
CHI. CUBS 5 – Cincinnati 3… Jameson Taillon (6-6) held the Reds to two runs on seven hits over five innings in winning his fourth straight start. Cody Bellinger’s RBI singled in the bottom of the third inning gave the Cubs the lead for good.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
TEXAS 5 – Chi. White Sox 3… Max Scherzer (10-4) overcame a three-run top of the first inning to pitch the Rangers past the White Sox in his Texas debut. Mitch Garver smacked a game-tying leadoff homer and Marcus Semien added a go-ahead solo shot in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Baltimore 6 – TORONTO 1… Jack Flaherty (8-6) held the Blue Jays to a run on four hits over six innings in his debut for the Orioles. Austin Hays had four hits, including a run-scoring double and an RBI single. Ryan Mountcastle went 4-for-4 with a sacrifice fly and two runs scored.
N.Y. YANKEES 4 – Houston 3… Anthony Volpe singled home Harrison Bader with a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Yankees made it stand in holding off the Astros. Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer and Billy McKinney added a solo shot in the first.
Seattle 5 – L.A. ANGELS 3… Cade Marlowe unloaded a grand slam in the top of the ninth inning to push the Mariners past the Angels. Eugenio Suárez homered to lead off the sixth for Seattle. L.A.’s Shohei Ohtani smacked his 40th homer in the loss.
INTERLEAGUE
KANSAS CITY 9 – N.Y. Mets 2… Brady Singer (7-8) tossed three-hit ball over eight scoreless innings and the Royals breezed past the Mets. Drew Waters belted a three-run homer. Bobby Witt Jr. went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and a run scoring single.
Minnesota 5 – ST. LOUIS 3… Ryan Jeffers and Michael A. Taylor hit two-run homers in the top of the second inning and the Twins went on to down the Cardinals. Taylor also drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth. Sonny Gray (5-4) gave up two runs on five hits over seven innings.
L.A. DODGERS 8 – Oakland 2… Julio Urías (8-6) pitched three-hit ball over five scoreless innings and reliever Emmet Sheehan went the rest of the way as the Dodgers cruised past the Athletics to complete a sweep of the series. Freddie Freeman went 3-for-5 with a solo homer. Miguel Rojas stroked a pair of run-scoring doubles.
