NATIONAL LEAGUE
MIAMI 5 – Washington 3… Eury Perez (1-0) held the Nationals to a run on three hits over five innings on the way to his first major league win and the Marlins completed a sweep of the series. Bryan De La Cruz smacked a solo homer. Nick Fortes had a couple of hits, including an RBI single.
ST. LOUIS 16 – L.A. Dodgers 8… Willson Contreras belted a go-ahead three-run homer during a six-run bottom of the second inning and belted a second three-run blast during an eight-run eighth as the Cardinals outslugged the Dodgers. Nolan Gorman added a pair of homers and three RBIs. Nolan Arenado homered with a runner aboard. Juan Yepez and Paul DeJong slugged solo shots. St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright (1-0) surrendered two runs on five hits over 5-2/3 innings.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
L.A. Angels 6 – BALTIMORE 5… Shohei Ohtani opened the scoring with a solo homer in the first and his eighth-inning infield single scored Zach Neto with the decisive run in the defeat of the Orioles. Neto also singled home a run. Mike Trout homered with a runner aboard.
Cleveland 3 – CHI. WHITE SOX 1… Cam Gallagher singled home a run as the Guardians scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to break a tie and held off the White Sox. Gabriel Arías homered for Cleveland.
N.Y. Yankees 4 – TORONTO 2… Aaron Judge homered with a runner aboard in the bottom of the first inning to give the Yankees the lead for good in their win over the Blue Jays. Aaron Hicks singled home run Anthony Volpe cracked a ninth-inning homer. Nestor Cortes (4-2) allowed two runs on five hits over six innings.
INTERLEAGUE
N.Y. METS 3 – Tampa Bay 2… Jeff McNeil scored a tie-breaking run on Tommy Pham’s infield single in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Mets made it stand in edging the Rays. Pete Alonso homered for the third straight game. Tylor Megill (5-2) gave up two runs on four hits over six innings.
