Janet Sue (Parsons) Sullivan

Janet Sue (Parsons) Sullivan, age 62 of Mattoon, IL passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at her residence.

Janet was born on January 3, 1961, in Kirksville, MO to the late Grant and Grace (Campbell) Parsons. Janet grew up on a farm in rural Edina, MO.

She attended Novelty Elementary School and graduated from Knox County High School in 1979. She lived in Novinger, MO for a number of years where she was employed several years at Cenvo in Kirksville, MO before moving to Mattoon, IL. While in Mattoon, she worked at JJ Collins’ Son and then most recently with Bimbo Bakery. Janet was a member of the Novelty Christian Church and most recently a member of Family Worship Center.

Warm, friendly, and outgoing, Janet always kept herself busy. Janet had a special love for her family and spending what time she could with both her kids and all her grandkids; attending several of the school activities and other events. She had a passion for shopping of all kinds and decorating, collecting country décor, hummingbirds, angels, and squirrels; always making a space feel like home. She was known for making her famous Christmas candy, especially peanut butter balls, Martha Washington’s and peanut butter fudge. Janet also had a special kind of love for animals, especially feeding her squirrels. She even took in a baby squirrel “Susie” raising her as one of her own. A free-spirit, Janet and Bill would ride motorcycles throughout the country, enjoying every minute with the wind in her hair and sun on her face. Janet touched the hearts of many over the years and will be missed by all.

Janet is survived by her fiancé, William “Bill” Lotton, of Mattoon, IL; one son, Jeremy Sullivan and wife Angie of Kirksville, MO; one daughter, Jennifer Sullivan of Downing, MO; three grandchildren, Bentley and Brooklynn Matthew of Downing, MO; Nevaeh Sullivan of Kirksville, MO; two step-grandchildren, Ashtyn Hays of Columbia, MO, Shad Hays of Kirksville, MO; one brother David Parsons of Edina, MO; and two sisters, Mary Ann Epley and husband Terry of Quincy, IL, and Lois Dover and husband Bryan of Kirksville, MO.

Janet’s wishes were to be cremated. A Memorial Visitation with the family receiving friends has been planned for Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 12 noon until 2:00 pm at Doss Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
