MLB Scores Thursday 9-29

NATIONAL LEAGUE
CHI. CUBS 2 – Philadelphia 0… Javier Assad (2-2) pitched five-hit ball over five innings and two relievers completed the Cubs’ shutout of the Phillies. Patrick Wisdom doubled home the only run Chicago needed in the bottom of the first inning. Ian Happ added a run-scoring single.

Miami 4 – MILWAUKEE 2… Avisail Garcia unloaded a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning to power the Marlins past the Brewers. Miami managed just two hits over the first six innings.

L.A. Dodgers 5 – SAN DIEGO 2… The Dodgers downed the Padres after spotting them an early two-run lead. Miguel Vargas lifted a sacrifice fly and came through with a tie-breaking two-run single in the top of the sixth inning. Will Smith added a solo homer in the eighth.

SAN FRANCISCO 6 – Colorado 4… Ford Proctor’s grand slam capped a five-run bottom of the second inning and the Giants held off the Rockies. Carlos Rodón (14-8) limited Colorado to two hits and struck out 10 over six innings.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Chi. White Sox 4 – MINNESOTA 3… The White Sox squeaked past the Twins after spotting them an early two-run lead. Jose Abreu’s RBI double in the top of the eighth inning proved to be the difference. Romy González tripled home a run and scored in the third.

DETROIT 10 – Kansas City 3… Tucker Barnhart went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs to lead the Tigers in their shellacking of the Royals. Javier Baez homered with a runner aboard. Willi Castro also went deep. Eduardo Rodriguez (5-5) limited Kansas City to five hits over 6-2/3 scoreless innings.

BOSTON 5 – Baltimore 3… J.D. Martinez connected for a tie-breaking two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to send the Red Sox past the Orioles. Triston Casas had a couple of hits, including a run-scoring double, for Boston.

CLEVELAND 2 – Tampa Bay 1… Steven Kwan slammed a game-tying double in the bottom of the fourth inning and came around to score on Oscar González’s infield single to push the Guardians past the Rays. Cleveland starter Cal Quantrill allowed just a first-inning run on four hits over six innings, while the Guardians managed just three hits in six scoreless innings off Tampa Bay starter Jeffrey Springs.

L.A. ANGELS 4 – Oakland 2… Shohei Ohtani (15-8) took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and 10 as the Angels doubled up on the Athletics.  Luis Rengifo, Taylor Ward and Max Stassi smacked solo homers for L.A.

SEATTLE 10 – Texas 9 (11 innings)… The Mariners came up with two runs in the bottom of the 11th inning to outlast the Rangers. J.P. Crawford’s infield single brought home Dylan Moore with the winning run. Mitch Haniger blasted a pair of two-run homers for Seattle.
