NATIONAL LEAGUE
Pittsburgh 6 – CINCINNATI 3… Rodolfo Castro belted a go-ahead three-run homer and Diego Castillo added a two-run shot in the top of the fifth inning as the Pirates doubled up on the Reds. Bryan Reynolds also went deep for Pittsburgh.
Chi. Cubs 5 – N.Y. METS 2… Javier Assad (1-1) allowed just a run on five hits over six innings and the Cubs cruised past the Mets. Zach McKinstry homered with a runner aboard. Rafael Ortega hit a solo homer and singled home a run.
L.A. Dodgers 6 – ARIZONA 0… Tyler Anderson (15-3) pitched five-hit ball over seven innings and got help from two Dodgers’ relievers in the blanking of the Diamondbacks. Mookie Betts blasted a three-run homer. Cody Bellinger doubled home two runs.
SAN FRANCISCO 3 – Atlanta 2… Alex Cobb (6-6) scattered six hits over seven scoreless innings and the Giants held off the Braves. Luis Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with a run-scoring single. Thairo Estrada had three hits and scored a run.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
CLEVELAND 5 – L.A. Angels 4… Austin Hedges stroked a two-run double during a four-run bottom of the second inning and Amed Rosario doubled home the decisive run in the seventh as the Guardians topped the Angels. Steven Kwan had a couple of hits, including a run-scoring single.
Houston 7 – DETROIT 0… Framber Valdez (15-5) tossed a complete-game six-hitter and got plenty of offensive support in shutting out the Tigers. Jeremy Peña drove in the only run Houston needed with a first-inning single. Kyle Tucker knocked in three runs.
TORONTO 3 – Tampa Bay 2… Bo Bichette connected for a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Blue Jays hung on to edge the Rays. Bichette also singled home a tying run in the fourth.
INTERLEAGUE
Texas 3 – MIAMI 2… The Rangers came from two runs down to top the Marlins in the opener of a doubleheader. Mark Mathias drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the eighth inning to force home a tie-breaking run. Mathias also scored the tying run in the eighth on Sam Huff’s infield grounder.
MIAMI 10 – Texas 6… The Marlins blew away the Rangers with an eight-run bottom of the fifth inning and earned a split of the twinbill. Jon Berti singled home two runs and Garrett Cooper added a two-run double during the big inning. Charles LeBlanc produced a pair of RBI doubles.
