Mistakes Key Tigers Season Opening Loss

Too many penalties, too many turnovers, two blown coverages and Macon ball control all cost the Kirksville Tigers Friday in a 27-14 road loss to Macon. Isaac Danielson threw for 175 yards and a touchdown, but threw the ball to Macon defenders three times. KHS started the scoring on a Drew Chrisman 20 yard run with 3:34 left in the first quarter to make it 7-0. Macon would tie it with 3:30 to play in the 2nd quarter on a 26 yard TD pass to a wide open Jonathan Bray, it would be 7-7 at the break. Bray would snare another wide open TD grab from 25 yards out with 6:34 in the 3rd to give Macon their first lead 14-7. KHS would tie the game early in the fourth on a nifty 58 yard catch and run to Jalen Kent, it would be 14-14 with 11:40 to play. But Macon would then put together a 73 yard drive, taking 7:20 off the clock, helped by three Kirksville offsides penalties. Mykel Linear would score on a an 11 yard run with 4:00 minutes remaining to make it 21-14. Macon would finish it off with another 11 yard run by Linear with :35 seconds left to give Macon the victory 27-14. Macon kept the ball 33 minutes compared to 14 minutes for Kirksville. Chrisman was able to rush the ball for 101 yards. KHS opens at 0-1 and will take on Chillicothe next friday in Kirksville’s home opener.
