NATIONAL LEAGUE
CHI. CUBS 2 – St. Louis 0… Five pitchers combined on a five-hitter and the Cubs blanked the Cardinals in the opener of a doubleheader. Nico Hoerner’s infield grounder opened the scoring and Yusei Suzuki singled home a run in the bottom of the third inning.
St. Louis 13 – CHI. CUBS 3… The Cardinals used a five-run top of the fourth inning and a six-run ninth to bury the Cubs and claim a split of the twinbill. Tommy Edman homered with the baes empty and doubled home two runs. Tyler O’Neil homered with a runner aboard. Nolan Arenado also went deep. Jake Woodford (3-0) gave up a run on four hits over 5-1/3 innings.
Atlanta 6 – PITTSBURGH 1… Max Fried (12-4) held the Pirates to a run on three hits over eight innings and the Braves cruised to the win. Travis d’Arnaud hit a game-tying homer to lead off the top of the fifth inning. Austin Riley drove in two runs. Vaughn Grissom went 3-for-4 with an RBI single.
PHILADELPHIA 7 – Cincinnati 5… Pinch-hitter Bryson Stott doubled home the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning and scored the winning run on pinch-hitter Nick Maton’s single to give the Phillies a walkoff win over the Reds. Cincinnati scored twice in the top of the inning to take a brief lead. JT Realmuto legged out a two-run double to highlight a four-run sixth for Philadelphia. Matt Vierling homered to lead off the seventh.
L.A. DODGERS 10 – Milwaukee 1… Trayce Thompson singled home a run, blasted a three-run homer and scored three runs to lead the Dodgers in their thrashing of the Brewers. Freddie Freeman went 3-for-4 and knocked in four runs. Tony Gonsolin (16-1) surrendered just a run on three hits over five innings.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
BALTIMORE 5 – Chi. White Sox 3… Ryan Mountcastle belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and the Orioles got run-scoring singles from Anthony Santander and Jorge Mateo to put away the White Sox. Austin Voth (4-1) gave up two runs on seven hits over 5-2/3 innings.
TAMPA BAY 11 – L.A. Angels 1… Christian Bethancourt hit a solo homer and singled home two runs to lead the Rays in their throttling of the Angels. Isaac Paredes also went deep. Manuel Margo single home a run, doubled in another and scored three times. Taylor Walls produced a two-run single.
Toronto 9 – BOSTON 3… George Springer’s bases-clearing triple highlighted an eight-run top of the third inning and the Blue Jays never looked back in their pounding of the Red Sox. Cavan Biggio contributed a two-run single. Ross Stripling (6-3) allowed a run on six hits over six innings.
HOUSTON 4 – Minnesota 2… Justin Verlander (16-3) pitched six no-hit innings and struck out 10 as the Astros downed the Twins. Alex Bregman’s two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning provided the winning margin.
INTERLEAGUE
San Francisco 3 – DETROIT 1… Carlos Rodón held the Tigers to a run on three hits and struck out 10 over seven innings as the Giants eased past the Tigers. Evan Longoria’s two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning was the difference.
N.Y. YANKEES 4 – N.Y. Mets 2… RBI singles by Andrew Benintendi and Aaron Judge in the bottom of the seventh inning carried the Yankees past the Mets for a sweep of the Subway Series. Judge opened the scoring with a fourth-inning solo homer.
Arizona 7 – KANSAS CITY 3… Christian Walker had three hits, including an RBI double, as the Diamondbacks downed the Royals. Alek Thomas went 3-for-4 and scored twice.
COLORADO 7 – Texas 6… The Rockies overcame a pair of three-run deficits to upend the Rockies. C.J. Cron belted a go-ahead three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. Elias Diaz connected for a game-tying three-run homer in the second.
Cleveland 3 – SAN DIEGO 1… Solo homers by Oscar Gonzalez and Andrés Giménez helped power the Guardians past the Padres. Four Cleveland relievers shut the door over the final 4-1/3 innings.
Miami 5 – OAKLAND… Pablo López (8-8) pitched four-hit ball over six scoreless innings and the Marlins withstood a ninth-inning rally to top the Athletics. Juan Encarnacion stroked a two-run double for Miami. Brian Anderson homered with the bases empty.
SEATTLE 4 – Washington 2… The Mariners got two-run homers from Mitch Hanigar and Eugenio Suárez in doubling up on the Nationals. Robbie Ray (10-8) gave up a run on two hits over 6-2/3 innings.
