NATIONAL LEAGUE
ST. LOUIS 13 – Colorado 0… Albert Pujols unloaded a pinch-hit grand slam and singled home a run as the Cardinals walloped the Rockies. Lars Nootbaar added a two-run homer. Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Adam Wainwright (9-8) allowed just three hits over seven innings and two relievers completed the shutout.
MILWAUKEE 5 – L.A. Dodgers 3… Andrew McCutchen staked the Brewers to a 3-0 lead with a pair of homers and Hunter Renfroe homered with a runner aboard to provide the winning margin in the Brewers’ win over the Dodgers. Corbin Burnes (9-5) gave up three runs on six hits over 5-2/3 innings.
Arizona 5 – SAN FRANCISCO 0… Zac Gallen (9-2) pitched four-hit ball and struck out 12 over 7-1/3 innings and got help from two Diamondbacks relievers in the shutout of the Giants. Jake McCarthy had three hits, including an RBI single, for Arizona.
ATLANTA 3 – N.Y. Mets 2… Michael Harris II singled home Vaughn Grissom with a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Braves held on to edge the Mets and move within 3-1/2 games of New York atop the NL East. Dansby Swanson opened the scoring with an RBI double in the third and scored on Austin Reilly’s single. Max Fried (11-4) gave up two runs on four hits over seven innings.
Washington 3 – SAN DIEGO 1… Nelson Cruz drew a bases-loaded walk and Keibert Ruiz lifted a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to push the Nationals past the Padres. Ildemaro Vargas homered in the third for Washington.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
TEXAS 10 – Oakland 3… Nathaniel Lowe belted a three-run homer and Mark Mathias added a solo shot as the Rangers bombed the Athletics. Jonah Heim knocked in two runs with a triple and a single. Dane Dunning (3-6) gave up two runs on four hits over six innings.
Houston 21 – CHI. WHITE SOX 5… The Astros buried the White Sox with a 25-hit attack. Alex Bregman had four hits, including a pair of homers, and drove in six runs. Chas McCormick connected for a three-run homer and knocked in five runs. Trey Mancini also went deep for Houston.
Toronto 9 – N.Y. YANKEES 2… Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., blasted a three-run homer to cap a five-run top of the second inning and the Blue Jays rolled past the Yankees. Teoscar Hernández had a couple of hits, including a two-run double. Alejandro Kirk doubled home a run and lifted a sacrifice fly. Jose Berrios (9-5) surrendered two runs on six hits over 6-2/3 innings. One of the runs was unearned.
TAMPA BAY 7 – Kansas City 1… Luis Patino (1-1) limited the Royals to four hits over 5-2/3 scoreless innings and the Rays blew past the Royals. Yandy Diaz homered to lead off the first inning and doubled home a run to spark a five-run seventh that put the game away. Christian Bethancourt also homered with the bases empty.
INTERLEAGUE
Chi. Cubs 3 – BALTIMORE 2… Willson Contreras smacked a pair of solo homers, pinch-hitter Rafael Ortega also went deep and the Cubs held off the Orioles. Adrian Sampson (1-3) pitched four-hit ball over 5-2/3 scoreless innings.
PITTSBURGH 8 – Boston 2… Bryan Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a pair of homers and four RBIs in leading the Pirates past the Red Sox. Ben Gamel smacked a two-run double. Kevin Newman had three hits and scored three runs. JT Brubaker (3-10) pitched two-hit ball over seven scoreless innings.
