MLB Scores Wednesday 8-17

NATIONAL LEAGUE
CINCINNATI 1 – Philadelphia 0… Jose Barrera singled home Albert Almora, Jr., with the game’s only run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Reds clipped the Phillies. Cincinnati starter Ranger Suarez and his counterpart Nick Lodolo each turned in strong seven-inning performances but didn’t get a decision.

Chi. Cubs 3 – WASHINGTON 2… Yan Gomes’ single in the top of the seventh inning scored Franmil Reyes with a tie-breaking run and the Cubs hung on to edge the Nationals. P.J. Higgins homered with a runner aboard in the fifth.

San Diego 10 – MIAMI 3… Jake Cronenworth’s grand slam highlighted a five-run top of the first inning and the Padres breezed past the Marlins. Ha-Seong Kim went 3-for-4 and knocked in four games. Brandon Donovan had three hits and drove in a run.

N.Y. Mets 9 – ATLANTA 7… Starling Marte went 3-for-5 with a pair of solo homers and the Mets outslugged the Braves. Brett Baty hit a two-run homer in his first major league at-bat. Francisco Lindor also went deep.

ST. LOUIS 5 – Colorado 1… Nolan Gorman singled, doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Cardinals past the Rockies. Jordan Montgomery (6-3) gave up a run on six hits over 5-2/3 innings.

L.A. Dodgers 2 – MILWAUKEE 1… Solo homers by Austin Barnes and Max Muncy powered the Dodgers past the Brewers. L.A. starter Tony Gonsolin (15-1) pitched two-hit ball over seven scoreless innings.

Arizona 3 – SAN FRANCISCO 2… Jake McCarthy came through with a go-ahead two-run single in the top of the eighth inning and the Diamondbacks held off the Giants. Stone Garrett had a couple of hits and doubled home a run.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
MINNESOTA 4 – Kansas City 0… Six Twins pitchers combined on a six hitter in the blanking of the Royals. Jose Miranda’s two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning provided all the offense Minnesota needed.

TORONTO 6 – Baltimore 1… The Blue Jays scored all six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a scoreless tie and bury the Orioles. Santiago Espinal and Alejandro Kirk keyed the uprising with two-run doubles. Toronto starter Ross Stripling limited Baltimore to one hit over 6-1/3 scoreless innings but the win went to reliever Yimi Garcia (2-4). The Jays managed just two hits through five innings off Oriole starter Austin Voth.

Seattle 11 – L.A. ANGELS 7… Cal Raleigh homered twice and drove in three runs as the Mariners pounded the Angels. Eugenio Suárez and Jesse Winker hit two-run homers. Carlos Santana produced a two-run single.

N.Y. YANKEES 8 – Tampa Bay 7 (10 innings)… Josh Donaldson unloaded a grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Yankees a walkoff win over the Rays. Anthony Rizzo led off the eighth with a game-tying homer. Gleyber Torres homered with a runner aboard.

CLEVELAND 8 – Detroit 4… The Guardians came alive to score six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and double up on the Tigers. Jose Ramirez delivered a tie-breaking two-run double and scored on Oscar Gonzalez’s second RBI double of the game.

Oakland 7 – TEXAS 2… Sean Murphy had three hits, including a pair of homers, drove in three runs and scored three times in leading the Athletics past the Rangers. Shea Langeliers homered with a runner aboard for Oakland. Adam Oller (2-5) allowed a run on five hits over six innings.

Houston 3 – CHI. WHITE SOX 2… Chas McCormick’s RBI double in the top of the fourth inning proved to be the difference as the Astros held off the White Sox. Framber Valdez (12-4) surrendered two runs on seven hits over seven innings.

INTERLEAGUE
Boston 8 – PITTSBURGH 3… The Red Sox rolled past the Pirates after spotting them an early two-run lead. Christian Arroyo drove in three runs with a double and a single. Alex Verdugo went 3-for-3 with a run-scoring single. Rich Hill (5-5) allowed two runs on three hits over five innings.
