PHILADELPHIA 13 – Washington 1… Nick Maton went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBIs to lead the Phillies in their romp over the Nationals. Rhys Hoskins also homered with a runner aboard. Darick Hall smacked a pair of solo homers.
Cincinnati 4 – MILWAUKEE 2 (10 innings)… The Reds scored twice in the top of the 10th inning and hung on to top the Brewers. Austin Romaine crossed the plate with the tie-breaking run on a throwing error by Milwaukee third-baseman Mike Brosseau. Donovan Solano followed with a sacrifice fly.
Miami 3 – CHI. CUBS 0… Jacob Stallings broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer an Peyton Burdick followed with a solo shot as the Marlins scored all three runs in the top of the fifth inning and breezed past the Cubs. Jesus Luzardo (3-4) pitched one-hit ball over seven innings and two relievers preserved the shutout.
N.Y. METS 5 – Atlanta 2… Pete Alonso and Mark Canha stroked two-run doubles during a four-run bottom of the third inning and the Mets coasted past the Braves. Jacob DeGrom (1-0) surrendered two runs on just one hit and struck out 12 over 5-2/3 innings.
ARIZONA 6 – Colorado 4… Daulton Varsho scored the tie-breaking run on a balk and Sergio Alcántara added a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Diamondbacks a come-from-behind win over the Rockies. Christian Walker’s two-run homer in the first gave Arizona an early lead. Emmanuel Rivera also went deep for Arizona.
L.A. DODGERS 4 – San Diego 0… Tyler Anderson (13-1) pitched two-hit ball over seven innings and got help from two relievers in the shutout as the Dodgers completed a sweep of the Padres and ran their winning streak to eight games. Cody Bellinger went 3-for-3 with a pair of solo homers. Freddie Freeman stroked two run-scoring singles.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
CLEVELAND 1 – Houston 0… Triston McKenzie (8-8) limited the Astros to two hits over eight innings in outdueling Cristian Javier (6-8) and the Guardians squeezed out the victory. Luke Maile’s homer to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning provided the game’s only offense.
Tampa Bay 7 – DETROIT 0… The Rays came alive to score all seven runs in the top of the ninth inning and bury the Tigers. Yu Chang and Yandy Diaz drew back-to-back walks with the bases loaded walks to open the scoring. Six Tampa Bay pitchers combined on a three-hitter.
KANSAS CITY 13 – Boston 5… MJ Melendez belted a three-run homer and knocked in six runs as the Royals pounded the Red Sox. Kyle Isbel tripled home a run and doubled home two others. Michael Massey had a couple of hits, including a two-run single, and scored three times. Brad Keller (6-12) allowed a run on four hits over six innings.
Toronto 3 – MINNESOTA 2… Cavan Biggio’s sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning scored Whit Merrifield with the decisive run as the Blue Jays outlasted the Twins. An overturned call on the play allowed the run to count. Lourdes Gurriel, Jr., had a couple of hits, including a run-scoring single for Toronto.
Chi. White Sox 8 – TEXAS 2… The White Sox used a 15-hit attack to thrash the Rangers. Andrew Vaughn went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer. Leury Garcia also had three hits and scored twice. Lucas Giolito (8-6) gave up a run on six hits over five innings.
SEATTLE 6 – L.A. Angels 3… Jesse Winker’s grand slam in the bottom of the third inning powered the Mariners past the Angels. Eugenio Suárez and Sam Haggerty each had a couple of hits and an RBI.
INTERLEAGUE
Pittsburgh 8 – BALTIMORE 1… Bryce Wilson (2-6) held the Orioles to a run on four hits over five innings and three relievers shut the door as the Pirates cruised to the win. Ke’Bryan Hayes drilled a two-run homer. Bryan Reynolds and Michael Chavis each had a couple of hits and an RBI.
ST. LOUIS 12 – N.Y. Yankees 9… Nolan Arenado and Paul DeJong hit three-run homers and drove in four runs as the Cardinals outslugged the Yankees. DeJong’s blast in the bottom of the eighth inning proved to be the difference. Paul Goldschmidt lifted a sacrifice fly and drew a bases-loaded walk.
San Francisco 6 – OAKLAND 4… Mike Yastrzemski homered twice and knocked in three runs to lead the Giants past the Athletics. Thairo Estrada homered with a runner aboard for San Francisco. Logan Webb (10-5) allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings.
