NATIONAL LEAGUE
CHI. CUBS 4 – Pittsburgh 2… Ian Happ doubled home two runs and scored on Nico Hoerner’s single in the bottom of the first inning and the Cubs coasted past the Pirates. Seiya Suzuki went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored.
CINCINNATI – Miami 2 – CINCINNATI 1… Joey Wendle’s two-run single in the top of the fifth inning broke a scoreless tie and the Marlins hung on to edge the Reds. Pablo López (7-5) allowed just a run on two hits and struck out 11 over seven innings.
Atlanta 6 – PHILADELPHIA 3… Spencer Strider (5-3) held the Phillies to a run on three hits over six innings and the Braves cruised to the win. Matt Olson homered with a runner aboard. Michael Harris II added a solo shot and an RBI double. Dansby Swanson had three hits and scored twice.
ARIZONA 7 – San Francisco 3… Sergio Alcántara homered with a runner aboard and Christian Walker connected for a three-run shot as the Diamondbacks dealt the Giants their sixth straight loss. Six Arizona pitchers kept San Francisco bats quiet.
Washington 8 – L.A. DODGERS 3… Luis Garcia blasted a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning and the Nationals added four-runs in the ninth to put away the Dodgers. Nelson Cruz delivered a key two-run double. Josh Bell also drove in two runs.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
BALTIMORE 5 – Tampa Bay 3… Ramon Urías belted a to-ahead two-run homer and Trey Mancini lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Orioles over the Rays. Cedric Mullins and Anthony Santander smacked solo homers for Baltimore.
Cleveland 8 – BOSTON 3… Nolan Jones cracked a three-run homer in the top of the third inning and the Guardians rolled past the Red sox. Steven Kwan had three hits and scored a run. Three Cleveland pitchers combined on a five-hitter.
L.A. Angels 6 – KANSAS CITY 0… Jose Suarez held the Royals to three hits over 5-1/3 innings and two Angels relievers completed the shutout. Max Stassi and Shohei Ohtani hit solo homers for L.A. Luis Rengifo went 2-for-3 with a two-run double.
OAKLAND 5 – Houston 3… Chad Pinder unloaded a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning and the Athletics went on to down the Astros. Frankie Montas (4-9) gave up three runs on seven hits over five innings. One of the runs he allowed was unearned.
SEATTLE 5 – Texas 4… The Mariners scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to upend the Rangers. Cal Raleigh doubled home J.P. Crawford with the tying run and came around to score the winning run on Carlos Santana’s sacrifice fly. Julio Rodriguez also went deep for Seattle.
INTERLEAGUE
TORONTO – St. Louis… Matt Chapman’s second RBI single of the game broke a tie in the top of the sixth inning and George Springer followed with a grand slam as the Blue Jays blew away the Cardinals. Vladimir Guerrero homered with a runner aboard. Alejandro Kirk also went deep.
N.Y. METS 6 – N.Y. Yankees 3… Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar homered during a four-run bottom of the first inning and the Mets went on to double up on the Yankees. Pete Alonso went 3-for-3 with an RBI double.
San Diego 6 – DETROIT 4 (10 innings)… Jorge Alfaro’s two-run single capped a three-run top of the 10th inning that carried the Padres past the Tigers. Alfaro also had a two-run double. Luke Voit knocked in San Diego’s other three runs.
MILWAUKEE 7 – Minnesota 6… Luis Urias lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Andrew McCutchen with the winning run as the Brewers fought off the Twins. Urias also homered with a runner aboard. Hunter Renfroe belted a three-run homer for Milwaukee.
Chi. White Sox 2 – COLORADO 1… Michael Kopech (4-6) scattered six hits over 5-1/3 scoreless innings and the White Sox hung on to edge the Rockies. Yoan Moncada’s RBI double in the top of the seventh inning proved to be the difference.
