NATIONAL LEAGUE
Chi. Cubs 4 – PHILADELPHIA 3… The Cubs scored the game’s first four runs and held on to edge the Phillies and complete a three-game sweep. Yan Gomes smacked a pair of solo homers and Nelson Velasquez connected added another for Chicago. Drew Smyly (3-5) gave up two runs on four hits over six innings. One of the runs he allowed was unearned.
Miami 6 – PITTSBURGH 5 (10 innings)… The Marlins recovered to outlast the Pirates after blowing a two-run ninth-inning lead. Pinch-hitter Nick Fortes stroked a tie-breaking RBI single in the top of the 10th and came around to score the decisive run on Miguel Rojas’ single.
CINCINNATI 6 – St. Louis 3… Joey Votto blasted a three-run homer to cap a four-run bottom of the third inning and the Reds cruised past the Cardinals. Tyler Naquin went 2-for-4 with an RBI single. Tyler Mahle (4-7) allowed three runs on two hits over six innings.
MILWAUKEE 10 – Colorado 9… Andrew McCutchen delivered a tie-breaking two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Brewers hung on to edge the Rockies. Hunter Renfroe homered with a runner aboard and Tyrone Taylor added a solo shot for Milwaukee.
L.A. DODGERS 7 – San Francisco 4… The Dodgers came from behind twice get past the Giants and finish off a sweep of the four-game series. Jake Lamb’s ground-rule double in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Freddie Freeman with the tie-breaking run and sparked a three-run rally. Trace Thompson knocked in two runs with a double and a single. Gavin Lux produced a pair of run-scoring singles.
Washington 4 – ARIZONA 3… The Nationals squeezed past the Diamondbacks after spotting them a pair of two-run leads. Keibert Ruiz singled home Lane Thomas with a tie-breaking run in the top of the eighth inning. Josh Bell’s RBI double tied the game in the eighth.
N.Y. METS 8 – San Diego 5… Pete Alonso gave the Mets the lead for good with a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning and added an RBI double in the win over the Padres. Mark Canha went 2-for-3 with an RBI single. Francisco Lindor had a couple of hits and scored twice.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
N.Y. Yankees 6 – BALTIMORE 0… Nestor Cortes (8-3) scattered six hits over six innings and reliever Clarke Schmidt completed the Yankees’ shutout of the Orioles. Aaron Judge had a couple of hits, including a two-run homer. Jose Trevino went 4-for-4 with an RBI.
Toronto 8 – BOSTON 4… Cavan Biggio stroked a two-run single and Raimel Tapia legged out a bases-clearing triple during a five-run top of the first inning and the Blue Jays went on to double up on the Red Sox. Vladimir Guerrero had four hits, including a run-scoring single.
Minnesota 9 – DETROIT 1… Sonny Gray (5-3) allowed just a run on two hits over six six innings and got plenty of support as the Twins walloped the Tigers. Jose Miranda went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Gary Sánchez drilled a two-run double.
CHI. WHITE SOX 6 – Cleveland 3… Leury Garcia opened the scoring with a two-run homer before A.J. Pollock added a three-run shot in the bottom of the second inning and the White Sox coasted past the Guardians. Eloy Jimenez slugged a solo shot in the sixth. Chicago starter Dylan Cease (10-4) scattered seven hits over six scoreless innings.
KANSAS CITY 4 – Tampa Bay 2… Hunter Dozier singled home Whit Merrifield with a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the seventh inning and MJ Melendez added an RBI double in the eighth as the Royals put away the Rays. Kris Bubic (2-6) held Tampa Bay to two runs on four hits over seven innings.
Texas 11 – OAKLAND 8… The Rangers built a 10-0 lead aver 4-1/2 innings and held off the Athletics. Avisail Garcia went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer and a run- scoring single. Corey Seager also went deep. Jonah Heim had three hits, including an RBI double, and scored three times. Martin Perez (8-2) surrendered just a run on four hits over seven innings.
Houston 8 – SEATTLE 5… Jose Altuve and Jeremy Peña opened the game with back-to-back homers in giving the Astros an early lead and they held off the Mariners. Martin Maldonado knocked in three runs with a pair of singles. Framber Valdez (9-4) gave up three runs on eight hits over 6-2/3 innings.
INTERLEAGUE
L.A. Angels 9 – ATLANTA 1… The Angels opened with a five-run top of the first inning and never looked back in their romp over the Braves. Max Stassi had three hits and drove in three runs. Taylor Ward went 3-for-5 with a solo homer.
