Cardinals and Reds squads started their All-Star breaks early on Sunday when an afternoon of storms led to the postponement of their game.
A St. Louis team scheduled to play for a 17th day in a row and for the 30th time in 31 days got a much-needed day off heading into the All-Star break. Cincinnati has already had to use 53 players this season because of injuries and illnesses got a reprieve on Sunday. The Reds almost assuredly will break the 2003 franchise record for players used in a season at 57.
Sunday’s postponed game at Busch Stadium will now be played on Sept. 17 at 12:15 p.m. as part of a split doubleheader.
