Shirley Belle Harris

Shirley Belle (Johnson) Harris, eighty-seven of Bloomfield, Iowa, formerly of rural Glenwood, Missouri, passed away at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield, Iowa on Thursday, June 9, 2022.

The daughter of Willard Joseph and Lynnie Florence (Lucas) Johnson, she was born in Glenwood, Missouri on February 26, 1935. She was a graduate of the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri. Following graduation, she was united in marriage to Howard Franklin Harris on October 10, 1953 at the Glenwood United Methodist Church in Glenwood, Missouri and to this union one son, Marc was born.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Franklin Harris of Bloomfield, Iowa; one son, Marc Harris and wife, Renee of Kelley, Iowa; two grandchildren, Lee Harris and wife, Jessica of Kelley, Iowa and Cody Harris of Slater, Iowa; one sister, Diana Ingersoll and husband, Robert of Lancaster, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Dufur of Queen City, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Cramer and husband, Harold of Texas and Camille Harris of Ohio; several nieces and nephews; other family members and special friends.

Shirley is preceded by her parents; one sister, Barbara Joan Dufur; two brothers-in-law, Robert Harris and Eddie Harris and his wife, Frances.

Shirley was a member of the Glenwood United Methodist Church in Glenwood, Missouri although Shirley and Howard attended the Lancaster United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Missouri as long as their health permitted.

Shirley and Howard moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in September 1959 and lived there until September 1994 when they moved back to Glenwood, Missouri to live on the family farm. While living in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Shirley was a cashier in food service for the Cedar Rapids Public School System. She was also known as the “Lunch Lady” to most of the children! They were able to live on the family farm until 2020 but due to health reasons, they moved to Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Josh Ritzheimer, Pastor of the United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Missouri assisted by Gary Stump of Lancaster, Missouri officiating. Music will be special CD selections of “I Love To Tell The Story” and “Amazing Grace.” Pallbearers will be Adam Ingersoll, Kevin King, Russell Lancaster, Jim Miller, John West and Gary Kimbrell. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral services on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. at 11:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the Glenwood Cemetery or to the Glenwood Community Hall. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by logging on to normanfh.com.
