NATIONAL LEAGUE
L.A. DODGERS 7 – Arizona 6… The Dodgers fought their way past the Diamondbacks in the first game of a doubleheader after spotting them a three-run lead. They got two-run homers from Mookie Betts and Justin Turner, along with a solo shot from Trea Turner, during a five-run bottom of the sixth inning. Will Smith also went deep.
L.A. DODGERS 12 – Arizona 3… The Dodgers overcame an early two-run deficit to blow away the Diamondbacks and complete a sweep of the twinbill. Edwin Rios’ three-run homer capped a six-run bottom of the second inning. Trea Turner had a couple of hits and knocked in four runs. Freddie Freeman went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
N.Y. METS 3 – St. Louis 1… Five pitchers combined on a five-hitter and the Mets held off the Cardinals in the opener of a doubleheader. Jake Reed (1-0) pitched two hitless innings in relief of starter Trevor Williams to get the win. Jeff McNeil and Domonic Smith produced run-scoring doubles in the bottom of the third inning for New York.
St. Louis 4 – N.Y. METS 3… Tyler O’Neill’s infield single in the top of the ninth inning scored Brendan Donovan with a tie-breaking run and the Cardinals made it stand in edging the Mets to earn a split of the twinbill. Paul Goldschmidt drove in two runs with a pair of doubles.
MIAMI 5 – Washington 1… Miguel Rojas homered, doubled and singled in leading the Marlins past the Nationals. Jesús Sánchez also went deep. Starter Cody Poteet and five relievers held Washington at bay.
San Diego 3 – PHILADELPHIA 0… Mike Clevinger (1-0) pitched one-hit ball over five innings and got help from two relievers in the Padres’ shutout of the Phillies. Robinson Canó singled home a run and scored on Trent Grisham’s single in the top of the seventh inning.
CHI. CUBS 7 – Pittsburgh 0… Keegan Thompson (3-0) held the Pirates to four hits over five innings and three Cubs relievers did the rest in the shutout win. Jonathan Villar homered and singled in a run for Chicago.
Atlanta 3 – MILWAUKEE 0… Tucker Davidson (1-0) celebrated his call-up from the minor leagues with a strong five-inning effort on the mound and the Braves went on to blank the Brewers. Marcell Ozuna’s two-run homer provided Atlanta with all the offense it needed.
San Francisco 10 – COLORADO 7… Darin Ruff knocked in three runs with a single and a double as the Giants outslugged the Rockies. Thairo Estrada added a pair of run-scoring singles. Tommy La Stella smacked a solo homer and doubled twice.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Chi. White Sox 3 – KANSAS CITY 0… Dylan Cease (4-1) scattered seven hits over 5-2/3 innings and four White Sox relievers completed the shutout of the Royals. AJ Pollock lifted a sacrifice fly and Jose Abreu followed with a two-run double as Chicago scored all three runs in the top of the fifth inning.
KANSAS CITY 2 – Chi. White Sox 1 (10 innings)… Brady Singer (1-0) pitched four-hit ball over seven innings and the Royals held off the White Sox to earn a split of the twinbill. M.J. Melendez hit his first career homer.
TAMPA BAY 8 – Detroit 1… Kevin Kiermaier, Kevin Phillips and Randy Arozarena each homered and drove in two runs as the Rays breezed past the Tigers. Ji-Man Choi added two RBIs. Shane McClanahan (3-2) allowed a run on four hits over seven innings.
N.Y. Yankees 5 – BALTIMORE 4… Aaron Judge went 4-for-5 with two solo homers and an RBI double in leading the Yankees past the Orioles. The victory was New York’s 20th in 23 games.
TORONTO 3 – Seattle 0… José Berríos and two relievers combined on a six-hitter as the Blue Jays blanked the Mariners. Berríos (3-2) scattered six hits over seven innings. George Springer’s bases-clearing double in the bottom of the second inning accounted for the game’s only offense
Houston 13 – BOSTON 4… The Astros erupted to hit five home runs during a nine-run top of the second inning on their way to crushing the Red Sox. Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker, Jeremy Peña, Michael Brantley and Yuli Gurriel all went deep for Houston. Tucker added a grand in the fourth.
TEXAS 7 – L.A. Angels 4… The Rangers came alive to score seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and upend the Angels. Sam Huff’s two-run single keyed the uprising. Kole Calhoun homered with a runner aboard. Corey Seager added a solo shot.
OAKLAND 5 – Minnesota 2… Kevin Smith’s early two-run homer staked the Athletics to an early lead but they needed Seth Brown’s go-ahead RBI single in the seventh to get past the Twins. Sean Murphy added a two-run single.
INTERLEAGUE
Cincinnati 5 – CLEVELAND 4 (10 innings)… The Reds recovered to outlast the Guardians after blowing a two-run ninth-inning lead. Mike Moustakas drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the 10th to bring home Matt Reynolds with a tie-breaking run. Tyler Naquin opened the scoring with a third-inning homer.
