Herbert Allen Treece, Sr

Herbert Allen Treece, Sr. 84 of Brookfield, Missouri, formerly of Glenwood, Missouri passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Brookfield Life Care of Brookfield in Brookfield, Missouri.

The son of George Washington and Emma Edna (Bryant) Treece, he was born on November 8, 1937 in Carbondale, Illinois where he also attended High School.

On August 28, 1955 in Hernando, Mississippi, he was united in marriage to Wanda Lee Spelbring and to this union five children were born, Wanda “June”, Mary Ann, Herbert Allen Jr., Joseph Allen, and a daughter who died in infancy.

Survivors include his children, Wanda June Scott and husband, Mark of Creston, Illinois, Mary Ann Robinson and husband, Charles of Anamosa, Iowa, Herb Treece, Jr. of Glenwood, Missouri and special friend, Chereye Lunsford of Kirksville, Missouri and Joseph Allen Treece and wife, Samantha of Kirksville, Missouri; 9 grandchildren, Joseph Adam Treece and wife, Marsha of Merrimack, New Hampshire, Jacob Wendell Treece and wife, Jillian of Kirksville, Missouri, Jeremiah James Treece and wife, Brandi of Kirksville, Missouri, Trevor Allen Robinson of Johnston, Iowa, Travis Navarone Treece of Kirksville, Missouri, Tyler Ryan Treece of Glenwood, Missouri, Michael Eugene Elshoff and wife, Hollie of Ashton, Illinois, Kevin Wayne Eggenburg and wife, Amy of Rochelle, Illinois and Angela Lee Morris of Marion, Iowa; 13 great grandchildren; three siblings, Harry Treece and wife, Julia of Carterville, Illinois, June Gee of McKanda, Illinois and Lucy Navolski of Florida; nieces and nephews and other family members.

Herb is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda Lee on February 5, 2012; one daughter in infancy; one grandson, Skyler Robinson and two brothers-in-law, Gary Navolski and Kenneth Gee.

Herb worked for the Sycamore Speedway in Sycamore, Illinois where he was a carpenter and farmer. Later, he moved to Missouri where he worked for Truman State University as a boiler operator and grounds keeper. He owned and operated Chief Trenching in Kirksville, Missouri doing backhoe and trenching services. After moving back to Illinois, his final career from which he retired was at Ideal Tools in DeKalb, Illinois in the machinery maintenance department. He was an excellent plumber, mechanic, welder, electrician, and overall handyman.

Herb and Wanda’s marriage was the epitome of true love, friendship and partnership. They were always together and always laughing. Herb loved tinkering on lawnmowers, talking with his friends under his porch, teasing grandkids and mostly loved spending time with friends and family. His neighbors would always say he was willing to lend a helping hand or advice if he couldn’t do either he always had hot coffee and cookies.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, Pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster, Missouri officiating. Pallbearers will be Herb’s grandsons, Joseph Adam Treece, Jacob Wendell Treece, Jeremiah James Treece, Trevor Allen Robinson, Travis Navarone Treece, Tyler Ryan Treece, Michael Eugene Elshoff and Kevin Wayne Eggenburg. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the Glenwood Community Center in Glenwood, Missouri.
