Kansas City jumped out to a 6-0 lead, thanks in large part to homers by Whit Merrifield, Bobby Witt Jr. and Emmanuel Rivera, and the Royals came from behind to beat Colorado 8-7.
Rivera also added an RBI double. Starter Daniel Lynch tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings, then came a seven-run seventh inning for the Rockies, and the Royals headed to the ninth down, 7-6. But Salvador Perez delivered a go-ahead two-run single with one out and Scott Barlow locked down his fourth save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
The Royals return home Monday to take on the White Sox. Brad Keller goes for KC at 7:10.
