NATIONAL LEAGUE
PHILADELPHIA 3 – N.Y. Mets 2… Bryce Harper homered and singled home a run as the Phillies edged the Mets and snapped a four-game skid in the opener of a doubleheader. Kyle Gibson (3-1) allowed two runs on six hits over six innings in outdueling Max Scherzer (4-1).
N.Y. Mets 6 – PHILADELPHIA 1… Pete Alonso went 3-for-5 with a pair of homers and five RBIs as the Mets downed the Phillies to earn a split of the twinbill. Chris Bassitt (4-2) allowed just a run on five hits over 5-2/3 innings.
ATLANTA 9 – Milwaukee 2… Matt Olson hit a two-run double during a four-run second inning and the Braves cruised past the Brewers. Adam Duvall homered with the bases empty and William Contreras belted a three-run shot. Charlie Morton (2-3) pitched two-hit ball over five scoreless innings.
CINCINNATI 7 – Pittsburgh 3… Colin Moran unloaded a grand slam and homered with a runner aboard to power the Reds past the Pirates. Four Cincinnati pitchers combined on a three-hitter.
SAN FRANCISCO 4 – St. Louis 3… Mike Yastrzemski lifted a sacrifice fly and smacked a tie-breaking solo homer to lead the Giants past the Cardinals. LaMonte Wade Jr. also homered for San Francisco.
ARIZONA 4 – Colorado 0… Zac Gallen (2-0) pitched five-hit ball over seven innings and got help from two relievers Diamondbacks’ blanking of the Rockies. Jose Herrera provided all the offense Arizona needed with a two-run double.
SAN DIEGO 3 – Miami 2… Pinch-hitter Jorge Alfaro came through with a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Padres past the Marlins. Reliever Robert Suarez (2-1) tossed two hitless innings to earn the victory.
L.A. Dodgers 7 – CHI. CUBS 1… The Dodgers cruised past the Cubs for their sixth straight win. Walker Buehler (4-1) allowed just a run on four hits over seven innings. Cody Bellinger went 3-for-4 and scored a run.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
N.Y. YANKEES 2 – Texas 1… Gleyber Torres’ homer to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Yankees over the Rangers in the opener of a doubleheader. Giancarlo Stanton drove in New York’s first run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Texas 4 – N.Y. YANKEES 2… the Rangers overcame an early two-run deficit to down the Yankees for a split of the twinbill. Brad Miller delivered a pinch-hit, two-run homer to break a tie in the top of the seventh inning. Eli White also went deep.
Kansas City 6 – BALTIMORE 4… Michael A. Taylor singled home a tie-breaking single in the top of the ninth inning and scored on Salvador Perez’s single as the Royals downed the Orioles in the doubleheader opener. The runs were set up by a pair of two-out errors.
BALTIMORE 4 – Kansas City 2… The Orioles opened with a three-run bottom of the first inning and held off the Royals to earn a split of the twinbill. Bruce Zimmerman (2-1) gave up two runs and five hits over six innings.
Chi. White Sox 3 – BOSTON 2… José Abreu doubled home a pair of runs as the White Sox scored all three runs in the top of the third inning and held off the Red Sox for their sixth straight win. Dallas Keuchel (2-3) allowed two runs on eight hits over six innings.
CLEVELAND 4 – Toronto 3… Óscar Mercado’s tie-breaking, two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning pushed the Guardians past the Blue Jays. Tim Mayza smacked a game-tying homer for Cleveland.
HOUSTON 5 – Detroit 0… Jake Odorizzi (3-2) surrendered just one hit over the first five innings and two relievers completed the Astros’ shutout of the Tigers.
Aledmys Díaz unloaded a grand slam and Alex Bregman hit a solo homer for Houston.
MINNESOTA 4 – Oakland 3… Jorge Polanco delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the third inning and the Twins made it stand in handing the Athletics their ninth straight loss. Minnesota’s bullpen turned in 6-2.3 innings of shutout work.
SEATTLE 2 – Tampa Bay 1 (10 innings)… Jarred Kelenic with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Mariners clipped the Rays. Abraham Toro’s homer tied the game in the ninth.
INTERLEAGUE
L.A. ANGELS 5 – Washington 4… Anthony Rendon singled home Shohei Ohtani with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Angels a hard-fought win over the Nationals. Ohtani tied the game with a two-run double. Jack Mayfield lined a two-run single for L.A.
