MLB Scores Wednesday 5-4

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Arizona 8 – MIAMI 7… Pavin Smith’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning gave the Diamondbacks a three-game sweep of the Marlins. Daulton Varsho also went deep for Arizona.

Atlanta 9 – N.Y. METS 2… Adam Duvall’s two-run double keyed a seven-run top of the sixth inning that carried the Braves past the Mets. Dansby Swanson had a couple of hits and an RBI. Ian Anderson pitched one-hit ball over 5-2/3 innings.

MILWAUKEE 18 – Cincinnati 4… Rowdy Tellez hit a pair of homers, including a tie-breaking grand slam, and knocked in eight runs to lead the Brewers in their pounding of the Reds. Andrew McCutchen went 4-for-5, scored twice and had three RBIs.

COLORADO 5 – Washington 2… Jose Iglesias stroked a two-run double and Connor Joe legged out a two-run triple as the Rockies scored all five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and coasted past the Nationals. Austin Gomber (2-2) allowed two runs on seven hits over 6-2/3 innings.

L.A. DODGERS 9 – San Francisco 1… The Dodgers rolled past the Giants after spotting them an early lead. Mookie Betts and Max Muncy homered. Freddie Freeman legged out a two-run triple. Tony Gonsolin (2-0) surrendered a run on three hits over five innings.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
HOUSTON 7 – Seattle 2… Alex Bregman had three hits and knocked in three runs as the Astros cruised past the Mariners to complete a three-game sweep. Michael Brantley had a couple of hits, including a two-run single. Justin Verlander (3-1) took a shutout into the seventh inning.

Tampa Bay 3 – OAKLAND 0… Four Rays relievers combined on a four-hitter in blanking the Athletics. Starter Corey Kluber went the first six innings but didn’t get a decision. Manuel Margot broke a scoreless tie with a two-run single in the top of the eighth inning.

BALTIMORE 9 – Minnesota 4… Cedric Mullins and Ramón Urías belted two-run homers during a six-run bottom of the third inning and the Orioles never looked back in their thrashing of the Twins. Austin Hays singled home a run and lifted a sacrifice fly.

TORONTO 2 – N.Y. Yankees 1… Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s tie-breaking single in the bottom of the third inning and the Blue Jays hung on to end the Yankees’ 11-game winning streak. Matt Chapman homered for Toronto. Yusei Kikuchi (1-1) allowed a run on three hits over six innings.

L.A. Angels 10 – BOSTON 5… The Angels erupted to score six runs after two were out in the top of the 10th inning and put away the Red Sox. Taylor Ward homered with a runner aboard and Jared Walsh added three-run shot during the uprising. Anthony Rendon smacked a solo homer and singled in a run.

INTERLEAGUE
DETROIT 3 – Pittsburgh 2… The Tigers scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a two-run deficit and held off the Pirates in the opener of a doubleheader. Six Detroit pitchers combined on a six-hitter.

Pittsburgh 7 – DETROIT 2…  The Pirates pulled away from the Tigers to salvage a split of the twinbill.  Ben Gamel went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Daniel Vogelbach drove in three runs with a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly.

San Diego 5 – CLEVELAND 4… Manny Machado homered with a runner aboard and Austin Nola delivered a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the sixth inning as the Padres edged the Guardians in the opener of a doubleheader. Four San Diego relievers shut the door on Cleveland over the final 4-1/2 innings.

CLEVELAND 6 – San Diego 5 (10 innings)… The Guardians erased an early three-run deficit to outlast the Padres. Rookie Steven Kwan singled home Owen Miller with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. Pinch-hitter Josh Naylor singled home a tying run to cap a three-run bottom of the eighth.

St. Louis 10 – KANSAS CITY 0… Adam Wainwright (3-3) limited the Royals to one hit over seven innings and the Cardinals bombed the Royals. Nolan Arenado belted a three-run homer and singled home two runs. Tyler O’Neill added a two-run homer.

Texas 2 – PHILADELPHIA 1 (10 innings)… Brad Miller broke a scoreless tie with a two-run single in the top of the 10th inning and the Rangers hung on to down the Phillies. The game featured a duel between Texas starter Martin Perez and his counterpart Zack Wheeler.

Chi. White Sox 4 – CHI. CUBS 3… The White Sox overcame a 3-1 deficit to squeak past the Cubs. They got homers from José Abreu and Leury García. Lucas Giolito (1-1) gave up three runs on three hits and struck out 10 over 5-2/3 innings.
