NATIONAL LEAGUE
N.Y. METS 6 – San Francisco 2… Francisco Lindor had three hits, including a solo homer, and the Mets cruised past the Giants to take three of four in the series. Eduardo Escobar also went deep. Carlos Carrasco (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits over 7 2/3 innings.
Arizona 4 – WASHINGTON 3… Cooper Hummel smacked a tie-breaking two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning and the Diamondbacks hung on to edge the Nationals. Closer Mark Melancon retired Juan Soto with the bases loaded in the ninth to nail down the win.
MIAMI 5 – St. Louis 0… Pablo López (2-0) pitched three-hit ball over seven dominant innings days and two relievers completed the Marlins’ blanking of the Cardinals. Jesús Sánchez and Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered for Miami.
Pittsburgh 4 – CHI. CUBS 3… Daniel Vogelbach homered with a runner aboard in the top of the third inning and Yoshi Tsutsugo added a go-ahead two-run double in the fifth as the Pirates held off the Cubs. Wil Crowe (1-0) gave up one hit struck out five in 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Chris Stratton got the save.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
CLEVELAND 6 – Chi. White Sox 3… Josh Naylor had two hits and knocked in two runs as the Indians doubled up on the White Sox to complete a three-game sweep. Franmil Reyes gave Cleveland the lead for good with a two-run homer in the third. Zach Plesac (1-1) allowed two runs, one of which was unearned, on seven hits over 6-2/3 innings. Emmanuel Clase pitched the ninth for his second save.
DETROIT 3 – N.Y. Yankees 0… Michael Pineda (1-0) pitched three-hit ball over five innings and four relievers finished off the Tigers’ blanking of the Yankees. New York manager angered Detroit when he had Miguel Cabrera intentionally walked while stuck on 2,999 career hits. Austin Meadows followed with a double to score two insurance runs.
Toronto 3 – BOSTON 2… Kevin Gausman (1-1) took a shutout into the ninth inning and the Blue Jays escaped with a win over the Red Sox. Matt Chapman went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Minnesota 1 – KANSAS CITY 0… Joe Ryan (2-1) pitched two-hit ball over six innings and three Twins relievers did the rest in the shutout of the Royals. Miguel Sano’s sacrifice fly off tough-luck loser Zack Greinke (0-1) in the top of the second scored Gio Urshela with the game’s only run..
OAKLAND 6 – Baltimore 4… Sean Murphy drilled a two-run homer and doubled home a run to lead the Athletics past the Orioles. Oakland starter Paul Blackburn (2-0) gave up just a run on three hits over five innings.
TEXAS 8 – Seattle 6… Kole Calhoun lined a two-out, tie-breaking RBI double in the top of the ninth inning and scored on Nate Lowe’s single to send the Rangers past the Mariners. Adolis García scored the go-ahead run and made a diving catch in the bottom of the inning.
