MLB OPENING DAY SCORES…
NATIONAL LEAGUE
CHI. CUBS 5 – Milwaukee 4… Ian Happ had three hits, including a tie-breaking two-run double in the seventh inning, and the Cubs beat the Brewers. Nico Hoerner hit a two-run homer.
N.Y. Mets 5 – WASHINGTON 1… Tylor Megill got the start in place of the injured Jacob deGrom and pitched five shutout innings as the Mets handled the Nationals. Megill allowed just three hits. Mark Canha and Jeff McNeal each had a couple of hits and an RBI.
ST. LOUIS 9 – Pittsburgh 0… Tyler O’Neill belted a three-run homer and drove in five runs to lead the Cardinals past the Pirates. Adam Wainwright pitched six innings and three relievers completed the shutout.
Cincinnati 6 – ATLANTA 3… Brandon Drury’s three-run homer powered the Reds past the defending World Series-champion Braves. Tyler Mahle allowed only an unearned run in five innings.
ARIZONA 4 – San Diego 2… The Diamondbacks came up with all four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to stun the Padres. Seth Beer connected for a walkoff three-run homer.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
KANSAS CITY 3 – Cleveland 1… Bobby Witt, Jr., doubled home Michael Taylor with a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the eighth inning and scored an insurance run on Andrew Benintendi’s single as the Royals downed the Indians.
Houston 3 – L.A. ANGELS 1… Framber Valdez pitched two-hit ball over 6-2/3 shutout innings and the Astros held off the Angels. Alex Bregman and Alvarez smacked solo homers in the top of the eighth inning. Bregman also singled home the game’s first run in the third.
