David Frank Atkins

David Frank Atkins, 78, of Milan, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

Dave was born in Pickens, South Carolina to Jay Frank and Nora (Rackly) Atkins on July 23, 1943.

Dave grew up in Pickens and at the age of 17 he convinced his parents to let him join the Navy. After his time in the military, Dave worked as a truck driver, sold tools, and also built towers. He was also a part time photographer and a bus driver. Dave spent 25 years as a Deputy Sheriff and served as police Chief of Green City, Missouri for two years. He currently owned and operated North Central Missouri Court Services.

On May 30, 1987, Dave married Cathy (Glidewell) Atkins and she survives of the home. Also surviving are: one son, Michael Atkins and fiancé Melissa Johnson of Anderson, South Carolina; one daughter, Stephanie Schnelle and husband Scott of Laurie, Missouri; grandchildren, Madison Atkins, Samantha Oder (Brad Ford), Alex (Ana) Oder, Miranda (Sean) Smith, and Whitley and Patience Schnelle; great granddaughters, Ella and Eliza Smith; a great grandson, A.J. Oder; two nieces, Blakely Atkins and Rae Porter and a nephew, Tyler Atkins. He was preceded by his parents; one brother, Steve Atkins and one sister, Shirley Atkins.

Dave was a founding member of the Milan Elks Lodge and a member of the Milan Baptist Church. He was also an active member of American Legion post 228 in Milan. Dave enjoyed the outdoors while camping and going fishing. He took many trips on his motorcycles. He loved going to the beach and golfing.

Funeral services for David will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Milan. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5-7:00 PM at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan.
