NHL SCOREBOARD…
Carolina 4 – PITTSBURGH 3…  The Hurricanes held off the Penguins and moved into first place in the Metropolitan Division. Jesper Fast scored a tie-breaking goal 9 seconds into the third period. Sebastian Aho added the decisive goal. Goalie Antti Raanta made 31 saves in recording his 100th career victory.

Montreal 3 – N.Y. ISLANDERS 2 (SO)… Cole Caufield and Rem Pitlick scored in the tie-breaker to send the Canadiens past the Islanders. Jeff Petry and Josh Anderson scored in regulation. Goalie Andrew Hammond made 30 saves and stopped two of three shootout attempts.

Florida 5 – CHICAGO 2… Aleksander Barkov had a goal and two assists in leading the Panthers past the Blackhawks for their third straight win. Jonathan Huberdeau’s two assists increased his league-leading assist total to 53 and extended his points streak to seven games.

N.Y. Rangers 2 – OTTAWA 1… The Rangers eased past the Senators after spotting them an early lead. Artemi Panarin netted the winning goal midway through the second period. Igor Shesterkin stopped 29 shots at goal.

COLUMBUS 7 – Buffalo 3… Dean Kukan scored two goals and assisted on another as the the Blue Jackets outshot the Sabres. Boone Jenner added a goal and an assist. Patrik Laine set up two goals.

ARIZONA 3 – Dallas 1… Nick Schmaltz scored a power-play goal to break a tie late in the second period and Clayton Keller added an empty-netter as the Coyotes ended the Stars’ six-game road winning streak. Goalie Scott Wedgewood stopped 32 shots.

Minnesota 7 – EDMONTON 3… Kevin Fiala found the net twice and had an assist in the Wild’s thrashing of the Oilers. Matt Boldy and Mats Zuccarello each had a goal and an assist. Kaapo Kahkonen made 30 stops at goal.

Vegas 4 – SAN JOSE 1… Jack Eichel’s first goal since joining the team highlighted the Golden Knights’ win over the Sharks. Goalie Logan Thompson made 35 saves in notching his first NHL win in his second career start.
