Both Kirksville teams were sluggish after an unexpected week and a half off and got swept at Moberly Tuesday 54-50 and 68-52. The Lady Tigers fell behind 8-0 early, but fought back to take their first lead of the game late in the 3rd quarter 35-33. However, Moberly’s Grace Billington and Asa Fanning were too much to overcome as Moberly wins 54-50. Billington went to the free throw line 9 times in the fourth period and made 7 of them to put it away. Fanning scored 20 points, ten in each half. The big sophomore had too many open looks under the basket and took full advantage. KHS dips to 16-3 overall and 5-2 in the NCMC.
The Tigers had no answer for Moberly’s Jaisten Payne, who scored 38 points to lead the Spartans past Kirksville 68-52. The Tigers committed 20 turnovers compared to Moberly’s 10 which contributed greatly to the loss. Camden Dempsay led KHS with 17 points and was 5 for 6 at the free throw line, but it wouldn’t be enough, as KHS falls to 15-4 overall and 4-3 in the NCMC. It has been a tough last five games for KHS, going 2-3 including 2 losses to Mexico.
Both Kirksville teams look to bounce back Friday with a home doubleheader with Fulton, coverage at 6:10.
