Rex Edward Kerby

Rex Edward Kerby, 85 of Glenwood, Missouri passed away at the Manor Care in Kirksville, Missouri on Monday, January 24, 2022.

The son of Edward Dale and Hazel Marie (Brown) Kerby, he was born on July 11, 1936 in rural Glenwood, Missouri. On September 5, 1954 at the Queen City Christian Church in Queen City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Joy Jean Eason and to this union three boys were born, Timothy Edward, Samuel Lee and Jacob Dean.

Rex is survived by his wife, Joy of Kirksville, Missouri; his sons, Sam Kerby and wife, Peggy of Glenwood, Missouri and Jake Kerby and wife, Denise of Lancaster, Missouri; six grandchildren, Countri Shannon Kerby of Lancaster, Missouri, Jeremiah Edward Kerby of Glenwood, Missouri, Megan McCall and husband, Clint of Bloomfield, Iowa, Heather Poe and husband, Talon of Downing, Missouri, Kimberly Watson and husband, Dillon of Lancaster and Jeremiah Padget of Downing, Missouri; eleven great grandchildren, Tia Schubert and husband, Joe of Brashear, Missouri, Blakely Kerby of Glenwood, Missouri, Easton Kerby of Downing, Missouri, Blayton, Addison and Bryson McCall of Bloomfield, Iowa, Nicole, Niylah Poe of Downing, Missouri, Hallie and Kinslee Broomhall and Ayden Watson of Lancaster, Missouri; one great great grandchild, Cohen Schubert of Brashear, Missouri; special friends, Jack and Rose Padget of Glenwood, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other family members and many good friends.

Rex is preceded in death by his parents Edward Dale Kerby on August 19, 2002 and Hazel Marie (Brown) Kerby on October 3, 1995 and one son, Timothy Edward Kerby on September 27, 2016.

Rex and Joy were members of the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster, Missouri and attended regularly as long as their health permitted.

Rex was employed with MO-DOT in 1956 and later was shed foreman for the Lancaster division. He retired from MO-DOT in 1994 with 40 years of service. After retiring from MO-DOT, Rex worked for the City of Lancaster for a number of years.

Rex’s hobbies included painting cars, tinkering with tractors, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and spending time spoiling the grandchildren!

An open visitation will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with graveside services at the Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, Missouri at 11:00 a.m. with Sonny Smyser, Pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith officiating. Pallbearers will be Countri Kerby, Jeremiah Kerby, Jeremiah Padget, Jason Watson, Jeff Tallman and Eddie Berry. Memorials have been established for Glenwood Cemetery.
