Lady Tigers Down Palmyra

The Kirksville Lady Tigers won a tough battle over Palmyra 49-39 Thursday in the semi-finals of the Highland Tournament. Kirksville kept the game up-tempo which caught up with Palmyra’s thin bench by the middle of the 3rd quarter, and KHS pulled away by outscoring the Panthers 13-10 in the final frame, thanks to two big buckets at the beginning of the period by Corinne Vorkink, one of which included a three point play at the free throw line. Vorkink ended with 13 points, Jada Jackson had 11. Kirksville had a bit of trouble taking care of the basketball, committing 19 turnovers, but they did force 18 Palmyra turnovers. The Panther’s inside threat, Candra King scored 17 to lead all scorers. KHS climbs to 10-2 on the year and will play Macon for the tournament championship Saturday, January 15th at 4:00 right back at Highland. But, we get a preview of that game Tuesday when the Kirksville teams welcome Macon to Tiger Gym for a varsity doubleheader. The Tiger men’s team will battle Palmyra in the tournament semi-finals Friday at 6:00.
