George Allen Leer

George Allen Leer, 68 of rural Davis County, Iowa passed away at his home on Friday, December 31, 2021.

The son of George Edward and Myrtle Marie (Coats) Leer, he was born on April 28, 1953 in Noblesville, Indiana. He was a graduate of Stugart American High School in Germany. On July 26, 1975 in Greenfield, Indiana, he was united in marriage to Robin Flanigan.

George is survived by his wife, Robin Leer of rural Davis County, Iowa; his children, Brandi Smith of Huntington, Indiana, Joe Leer and wife, Leelynn of Moulton, Iowa, Sarah Ury and husband, Lane of Eagleville, Missouri, Hannah Poe of Iowa and Mary Leer of Lancaster, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, Kadarenna Sales and fiancée, Brandon, Katlynn Leer, Dylan Bragg and fiancée, Pyper, Nick Riihinen, Kendra Leer and fiancée , Colt, Noah Smith and wife, Cadence, Payton Poe, Brody Bragg, Payley Poe, Madilynn Barker, Presleigh Poe and Wren Leer; 1 great granddaughter on the way; two brothers, John Leer and wife, Lola of Bryson City, North Carolina and Don Leer and wife, Xueling of Watson, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, John Flanigan and wife, Stephanie of Downing, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Alex Trujillo and wife, Susan of Tipton, Indiana and Debbi Flanigan of Lapel, Indiana; several nieces and nephews and other family members.

George is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruth Hamby and her husband, Short; one brother, Martin Leer; one brother in infancy, Robert Leer; his parents-in-law, Mat and Reda Flanigan and a brother-in-law, Mike Flanigan.

George served in the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam War and became a disabled veteran in 1988. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Cicero American Legion, Post 341 in Cicero, Indiana and the Bloomfield American Legion Post 78.

He was owner and operator of Leer Excavating.

He loved spending time with his family and watching the grandchildren playing sports. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting mushrooms, target shooting, working on and restoring antique cars, trucks and tractors.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Joe Leer assisted by Sonny Smyser officiating. Music will be provided by soloist, Brandon Matthews with special selections of “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “Lead Me Home”. Pallbearers will be Dylan Bragg, Nick Riihinen, Nathan Ross, Glen Saville (Ford), Hyatt Flanigan, Noah Smith, Colt Bonham, Chris Wilke, Roscoe Dorsey and Justin Shively. Honorary pallbearers will be John Flanigan, Doug Cox, Brody Bragg, Payton Poe, Mike Tolley and Brandon Matthews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri between the hours of 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for Darby Cemetery.
