The Truman State homecoming fireworks continued over from Friday night as the Bulldog Football team manhandled William Jewell 52-0 at Stokes Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Cody Schrader scored three touchdowns and ran for 172 yards in the first shutout by the Bulldogs since the 2016 season.
Schrader started the scoring with a 33-yard run to put Truman up 7-0 in the first quarter. He would add TD runs of 43 and five yards before calling it a day in the third quarter with only 13 carries.
Jaylen Jefferson scored the second TD of the contest with a 27-yard run on Truman’s first play after Jake Closser picked off a William Jewell pass and returned it 44 yards. Jefferson would go for 76 yards and later scored on a 25-yard run with 2:11 to play in the first half to put Truman up 42-0.
Nolan Hair completed 16-of-21 passes for 154 yards with touchdown receptions by Chris Kerr, a 12-yard strike, and Matt Hall, a 13-yard reception.
Dante Ruffin led the receiving corps with five catches for 57 yards.
The Bulldog defense set a single-game record with 10 quarterback sacks on the afternoon. Ulysses Ross accounted for three and Jack Marth notched two for Truman. The previous record was nine accomplished in Truman’s first GLVC game back in 2013 against Quincy University.
Collin Alves and Brandon Winston had fumble recoveries as the defense preserved the first shutout since blanking Lincoln in 2016, 37-0.
Truman amassed 463 yards of total offense with 266 on the ground and 197 in the air. Jewell was limited to 250 yards total, 50 on the ground and 200 passing.
The Bulldogs improve to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC and will host regional rival Quincy University next Saturday at noon. The Hawks dropped their third straight as they were manhandled by Indianapolis 70-21 at home. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
