Carolina 4 – MONTREAL 1… Sebastian Aho had two goals and an assist as the Hurricanes kept the Canadiens winless. Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored his first goal for Carolina in his return to Montreal. Vincent Trocheck and Teuvo Teravainen each had two assists. Goalie Frederik Andersen made 27 saves.
San Jose 2 – OTTAWA 1… Logan Couture and Kevin Labanc scored second-period goals and the Sharks hung on to edge the Senators. James Reimer stopped 30 shots at goal.
FLORIDA 4 – Colorado 1… Sam Bennett netted a tie-breaking goal in the second period and the Panthers cruised past the Avalanche for their fourth straight win to open the season. Anton Lundell had a goal and an assist. Mason Marchment added two assists. Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves in notching his 300th NHL win.
Washington 4 – NEW JERSEY 1… Daniel Sprong set up Anthony Mantha’s first-period goal and scored on a second-period breakaway to lead the Capitals past the Devils. Alex Ovechkin assisted on two goals. Vitek Vanecek stopped 25 shots at goal.
COLUMBUS 3 – N.Y. Islanders 2 (OT)… Patrik Laine’s goal at 1:49 of overtime lifted the Blue Jackets over the Islanders. Eighteen-year-old Cole Sillinger got his first NHL goal and Boone Jenner scored his team-leading third of the season. Goalie Elvis Merzlikins made 28 saves.
Calgary 3 – DETROIT 0… Goalie Jacob Markstrom stopped all 33 shots in his ninth career shutout as the Flames blanked the Red Wings. Elias Lindholm scored the only goal Calgary needed midway through the first period.
N.Y. Rangers 3 – NASHVILLE 1… Alexis Lafrenière scored a tie-breaking goal with 9:07 remaining and the Rangers held off the Predators for their third straight win. Igor Shesterkin made 28 stops at goal.
WINNIPEG 5 – Anaheim 1… Kyle Connor found the net twice and added an assist to lead the Jets past the Ducks for their first victory of the season. Goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 38 saves.
Vancouver 4 – CHICAGO 1… Jason Dickinson, Tanner Pearson and Brock Boeser scored their first goals of the season as the Canucks skated past the winless Blackhawks. Thatcher Demko made 29 saves at goal.
Edmonton 5 – ARIZONA 1… Connor McDavid scored twice to surpass 200 career goals and had an assist in leading the undefeated Oilers past the Coyotes. Zach Hyman also netted two goals. Mikko Koskinen got the start at goal and had 25 saves.
