MLB SCOREBOARD… Pennant races heating up with nine games left to play…

L.A. Dodgers 7 – COLORADO 5… The Dodgers rallied past the Rockies and are just a game back of first-place San Francisco in the NL West. Max Muncy homered with an automatic runner aboard to lead off the top of the 10th inning. Trea Turner singled home Mookie Betts with a tying run in the ninth. Corey Seager went 4-for-5 with a two-run single.

SAN DIEGO 7 – San Francisco 6… Victor Caratini’s infield single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Jurickson Profar with the winning run as the Padres salvaged the series finale. Ha-Seong Kim singled home a run and homered with the bases empty. Trent Grisham also went deep.

PHILADELPHIA 12 – Pittsburgh 6… The Phillies rolled past the Pirates after spotting them a six-run lead and closed within two games of first-place Atlanta in the NL East. Ronald Torreyes connected for a go-ahead, three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning. J.T. Realmuto homered and drove in four runs.

ARIZONA 6 – Atlanta 4… Carson Kelly hit a game-tying three-run homer to highlight a five-run bottom of the seventh inning that carried the Diamondbacks past the Braves. Daulton Varsho followed with a go-ahead RBI double. Atlanta had won four straight.

St. Louis 8 – MILWAUKEE 5… The Cardinals came from five runs down to upend the Brewers and win their 12th in a row. The victory increased their lead to five games over Cincinnati in the race for the NL’s second wild card. Paul Goldschmidt homered twice and drove in three runs.

Washington 3 – CINCINNATI 2… Juan Soto homered to lead off the top of sixth inning and added another solo homer in the seventh to power the Nationals past the Reds. Patrick Corbin (9-15) pitched four-hit ball over 6-2/3 shutout innings.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Chi. White Sox 7 – CLEVELAND 2… The White Sox clinched the AL Central crown by cruising past the Indians in the opener of a doubleheader. Tim Anderson hit his fifth leadoff home run of the season and added a three-run shot in the second for his sixth career multi-homer game. Luis Robert and Eloy Jiménez hit consecutive homers in the second.

CLEVELAND 5 – Chi. White Sox 3… Oscar Mercado’s two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Indians over the White Sox in the nightcap. Andrew Vaughn delivered a two-run single.

MINNESOTA 7 – Toronto 2… Nick Gordon went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and a run-scoring single in leading the Twins past the Blue Jays. The loss dropped Toronto a full game behind the idle New York Yankees for the second AL wild-card spot.

Seattle 6 – OAKLAND 5… The Mariners won their fifth in a row and beat the Athletics for the ninth straight time in moving within two games of the idle New York Yankees for the second AL wild-card spot. Oakland fell four games back of New York. Cal Raleigh and Luis Torrens hit two-run homers for Seattle. Mitch Haniger added a solo shot.

L.A. ANGELS 3 – Houston 2… Jack Mayfield lined a tie-breaking two-run double in the bottom of sixth inning and the Angels hung on to edge the Astros and snap a six-game losing streak. Houston’s magic number for clinching the AL West title remains at three.

BALTIMORE 3 – Texas 0… Zac Lowther (1-2) limited the Rangers to three hits over five innings on the way to his first career win and three Orioles relievers preserved the shutout. Ryan Mountcastle and Austin Hays homered for Baltimore.
