KHS Rides Defense To Win Over Marshall

If there was ever a clear example of what it means to win ugly, Friday night’s 14-0 Kirksville Tiger win over Marshall is it. The Tiger offense had trouble all night, but put together a long scoring drive late in the fourth quarter just when they needed to. After the Tiger defense forced the Owls to turn the ball over on downs deep in Tiger territory for the third time, Kirksville took over on their own 18 yard line midway through the fourth quarter. A twelve play, 82 yard drive was capped off by Landon Yardley’s four yard touchdown run with 2:11 to play to clinch the victory. The drive consumed 4:49, which included a huge fourth down conversion to set up KHS with first and goal. Drew Chrisman scored the Tiger’s only other touchdown early in the second quarter on an 11 yard run. The Tigers scratched together 285 yards of total offense, but turned the ball over three times on Isaac Danielson interceptions. The Tiger defense allowed only 150 total yards and collected two Owl turnovers. KHS wins it’s third straight game to climb to 3-2 on the year, and 2-0 in the NCMC. Next, it’s the sojourn to highly touted Hannibal Friday. Hannibal, the fourth rated team in Class 4, beat Mexico, the 8th rated team in Class 3, 48-21.
