Tigers Pound Moberly Friday NIght

The Kirksville Tigers never trailed and romped over rival Moberly Friday at Spainhower Field 63-22. The Tigers took the opening kickoff and drove quickly down the field when Isaac Danielson took it in from 2 yards away with 10:36 to go. After the Tigers fumbled, Moberly scored on an 18 yard pass from Collin Huffman to Gage St. Clair, but the Spartans missed the point after and the score was still 7-6 late in the first quarter. Moberly would get no closer. On the ensuing kickoff, Kirksville’s Randon Baumgartner returned the ball 75 yards for a touchdown. On Rileigh McLain’s kickoff, she put the ball in an area where no Spartans were located, the Tigers recovered the live ball, and Landon Yardley scored shortly thereafter on a 20 yard run to put Kirksville up 21-6. Moberly found the end zone with about a minute and a half left in the second quarter on a 3 yard run by Derieus Wallace, but the big gut punch came with 13 seconds left in the quarter on a 26 yard pass to Baumgartner to give the Tigers a 42-15 lead at the half. That TD took away any hope of a Moberly second half comeback. KHS scored three times in the third, highlighted by a 40 yard pick six by Drew Chrisman to make it 63-15, and the Tigers coasted to a 63-22 win. McLain was a perfect 9 for 9 on PAT’s in her history making season for the Tigers. Danielson threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns to go along with a rushing TD. Baumgartner, our Shelter Insurance player of the game, finished with 168 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Yardley rushed for 89 yards on 9 carries and two TD’s. Christian Mendez scored his first touchdown of the year on a three yard catch in the third. The Tigers have won their second straight game and climb to 2-2 on the year, 1-0 in the NCMC. Next, it’s a home date with the Marshall Owls Friday. Marshall lost to 8th rated Mexico 43-16. The Owls are still in search of their first win.
