NATIONAL LEAGUE
San Francisco 7 – COLORADO 4… LaMonte Wade, Jr., lined a go-ahead two-run single in the top of the ninth inning and Evan Longoria added a two-run double as the Giants rallied past the Rockies and moved two games ahead of the L.A. Dodgers atop the NL West. Brandon Crawford belted a game-tying three-run homer in the sixth. Brandon Belt went 3-for-5 and scored twice.
ST. LOUIS 5 – L.A. Dodgers 4… Yadier Molina homered with a runner aboard to cap a three-run bottom of the first inning and the Cardinals held off the Dodgers to end their four-game skid. Tyler O’Neill also connected for St. Louis. Starter Adam Wainwright (15-7) pitched into the ninth inning.
MIAMI 2 – N.Y. Mets 1 (10 innings)… Bryan De La Cruz’s third hit of the game was an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning that lifted the Marlins over the Mets. De La Cruz scored Miami’s first run on an Alex Jackson single in the second. Miami starter Sandy Alcantara allowed just a run on four hits and struck out 14 over nine innings but didn’t get a decision.
CHI. CUBS 4 – Cincinnati 1 (10 innings)… Jason Heyward’s three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning powered the Cubs past the Reds for their eighth victory in nine games. Ian Happ homered in the first for Chicago, which managed just four hits in the contest.
Washington 4 – ATLANTA 2… Juan Soto gave the Nationals the lead for good with a towering homer in the top of the seventh inning. Josh Bell homered and knocked in two runs. Washington used six relievers after starter Sean Nolin was ejected after only eight pitches.
MILWAUKEE 4 – Philadelphia 3… Eduardo Escobar hit a tie-breaking solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Brewers made it stand in their win over the Phillies. The blast was Escobar’s 25th of the season. Five Milwaukee pitchers provided 5-1/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Freddy Peralta.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
BOSTON 2 – Tampa Bay 1… Hunter Renfroe came through at the end to push the Red Sox past the Rays. Renfroe slugged a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning and the threw out Joey Wendle trying for a triple from deep center field for the game’s final out. The victory moved Boston a half-game ahead of the N.Y. Yankees for the AL’s first wild-card slot.
Toronto 6 – N.Y. YANKEES 3… The Blue Jays doubled up on the Yankees for their seventh straight victory after blowing an early three-run lead. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 41st homer of the season was a solo shot that capped the scoring. Teoscar Hernández stroked a go-ahead run-scoring single in the seventh.
Seattle 8 – HOUSTON 5… José Marmolejos stroked a tie-breaking, two-run single with two outs in the top of the ninth inning and J.P. Crawford followed with a two-run homer as the Mariners put away the Astros. Abraham Toro and Jarred Kelenic hit two-run doubles for Seattle.
Minnesota 3 – CLEVELAND 0… Joe Ryan (1-1) retired the first 19 batters he faced in his second major-league appearance before yielding the Twins’ only hit in the game, a Amed Rosario single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Two relievers completed the shutout. Nick Gordon broke a scoreless tie with an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning. Miguel Sanó homered with the bases empty in the seventh.
BALTIMORE 9 – Kansas City 8… The Orioles erupted to score all nine runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and erase a 5-0 deficit but then had to hold on to down the Royals. Ryan Mountcastle capped the uprising with a two-run homer. Kelvin Gutierrez delivered a game-tying two-run single.
OAKLAND 5 – Chi. White Sox 1… Frankie Montas (12-9) held the White Sox to a run on six hits over seven innings and the Athletics won for the first time in five tries. Matt Chapman opened the scoring with his 25th homer to lead of the bottom of the second inning.
INTERLEAGUE
Texas 8 – ARIZONA 5… Nathaniel Lowe singled, doubled, tripled, knocked in a run and scored three times as the Rangers topped the Diamondbacks for their fourth straight win. Jose Trevino drove in three runs. The loss was Arizona’s fifth in a row.
Detroit 5 – PITTSBURGH 1… Miguel Cabrera went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead the Tigers past the Pirates. Robbie Grossman also had four hits, including a solo homer, and scored three runs.
SAN DIEGO 8 – L.A. Angels 5… The Padres scored all eight runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back in their thumping of the Angels. Adam Frazier sparked the rally with an RBI double and capped it with a run-scoring single. San Diego scored three runs off bases-loaded walks and another on a wild pitch.
