MLB Scores Wednesday 8-25

NATIONAL LEAGUE
CHI. CUBS 5 – Colorado 2 (7 innings)… Patrick Wisdom belted a tie-breaking three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to send the Cubs past the Rockies in the doubleheader opener. David Bote and Austin Romine also went deep for Chicago.

Colorado 13 – CHI. CUBS 10 (7 innings)… Ryan McMahon hit a tie-breaking two-run homer and Brendan Rogers doubled home two more runs during a four-run top of the 10th inning that gave the Rockies a split of the twinbill. Rogers also homered with a runner aboard and singled home a run. Connor Joe unloaded a grand slam.

Arizona 5 – PITTSBURGH 2… The Diamondbacks rallied past the Pirates after spotting them a 2-0 lead after five innings. Carson Kelly drilled a go-ahead solo homer in the top of the seventh inning. David Peralta’s two-run double in the eighth capped the scoring. Pavin Smith homered for Arizona.

San Francisco 3 – N.Y. METS 2… Brandon Crawford lined a go-ahead two-run double in the top of the seventh inning and the Giants hung on to edge the Mets. Kris Bryant opened the scoring with a fourth-inning homer.

MIAMI 4 – Washington 3 (10 innings)… Jorge Alfaro’s single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored with the winning run in the Marlins’ win over the Nationals. Alfaro’s RBI single in the second opened the scoring. Brian Anderson homered for Miami.

MILWAUKEE 4 – Cincinnati 1… Brandon Woodruff (8-7) pitched four-hit ball and struck out 10 over six innings and the Brewers cruised past the Reds. Avisail Garcia and Jace Peterson produced run-scoring doubles for Milwaukee.

L.A. Dodgers 5 – SAN DIEGO 3 (16 innings)… AJ Pollock’s two-run homer in the top of the 15th inning proved to be the difference as the Dodgers put away the Padres. Both teams scored twice in the 15th. Pinch-hitter Billy McKinney and Trea Turner delivered run-scoring singles in the top of the 15th inning and the Dodgers made them stand in outlasting the Padres. Will Smith’s solo homer tied the game in the eighth.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
HOUSTON 6 – Kansas City 5 (10 innings)… Alex Bregman raced home with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning when Jake Meyers’ infield grounder bounded off the leg of Kansas City reliever Joel Payamps. Martin Maldonado and Yordan Alvarez hit solo homers for the Astros.

BALTIMORE 10 – L.A. Angels 6… The Orioles came up with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to get past the Angels and end their 19-game losing streak. Austin Hays struck the big blow with a two-run double. Cedric Mullins had a couple of hits and knocked in three runs.

TORONTO 3 – Chi. White Sox 1… Alejandro Kirk singled home a tie-breaking run in the bottom of the eighth inning and Randal Grichuk followed with a bases-loaded walk as the Blue Jays topped the White Sox. Toronto starter Robbie Ray fanned 14 in a strong seven-inning effort but didn’t get a decision.

Minnesota 9 – BOSTON 6 (10 innings)… The Twins recovered to down the Red Sox after blowing a 4-0 seventh-inning lead. Josh Donaldson hit a two-run homer and
Jake Cave added a three-run shot during a five-run top of the 10th inning. Jorge Polanco also homered with a runner aboard and Miguel Sanó slugged a solo shot.

CLEVELAND 7 – Texas 2… The Indians got solo homers from Oscar Mercado, Yu Chang, Austin Hedges and Franmil Reyes in breezing past the Rangers. Zach Plesac (8-4) surrendered two runs on eight hits over 5-2/3 innings.

INTERLEAGUE
ST. LOUIS 3 – Detroit 2 (10 innings)… Lars Nootbaar singled home Paul Goldschmidt with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Cardinals outlasted the Tigers. Goldschmidt smacked solo homers in the first and third innings for St. Louis.

Tampa Bay 7 – PHILADELPHIA 4… Francisco Mejia belted a tie-breaking three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to power the Rays past the Phillies. Brandon Lowe homered with the bases empty in the fifth.
