PITTSBURGH 4 – Arizona 2… Anthony Alford’s two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning proved to be the difference in the Pirates’ win over the Diamondbacks. Michael Chavis homered to lead off the third. JT Brubaker (5-13) pitched four-hit ball over five scoreless innings.
San Francisco 8 – N.Y. METS 0… Brandon Belt went 4-for-5 with a pair of homers and three RBIs to lead the Giants in their romp over the Mets. Mike Yastrzemski and LaMonte Wade Jr. also went deep. Sammy Long (2-1) allowed just three hits over 5-1/3 innings and three relievers completed the shutout.
Washington 5 – MIAMI 1… Tres Barrera and Ryan Zimmerman hit two-run homers and the Nationals cruised past the Marlins. Erick Fedde (6-8) gave up a run on six hits and struck out 10 over 6-1/3 innings.
MILWAUKEE 7 – Cincinnati 4… The Brewers came alive in their final two at-bats to erase a 4-1 deficit. Omar Narvaez doubled home a tie-breaking run to cap a four-run bottom of the seventh inning. Kolten Wong homered with a runner aboard in the eighth.
L.A. Dodgers 5 – SAN DIEGO 2… AJ Pollock robbed Fernando Tatis Jr. of a two-run homer with a leaping catch at the wall and singled home two runs as the Dodgers handled the Padres. Will Smith homered for L.A. Julio Uriaz (14-3) limited San Diego to one hit over five innings.
Colorado – CHI. CUBS (ppd)… Inclement weather in Chicago forced postponement of last night’s Rockies-Cubs game. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Seattle 5 – OAKLAND 1… Chris Flexen (11-5) allowed just a run on six hits over 6-2/3 innings and the Mariners completed a sweep of the series. Jarred Kelenic knocked in two runs with a single and a double. Luis Torrens lined a two-run single.
L.A. Angels 14 – BALTIMORE 8… The Angels piled up 19 hits in handing the Orioles their 19th straight loss. Jo Adell hit a two-run triple and a two-run single. Juan Lagares homered with a runner aboard and singled home a run.
Chi. White Sox 5 – TORONTO 2… Jose Abreu belted a three-run homer and Danny Mendick doubled home a run during a four-run top of the first inning and the White Sox breezed past the Blue Jays. Dylan Cease (10-6) surrendered a run on four hits over seven innings.
BOSTON 11 – Minnesota 9… Kiké Hernandez’s two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning provided the winning margin in the Red Sox’ win over the Twins. Hunter Renfroe homered twice and drove in five runs. Travis Shaw also went deep.
Texas 7 – CLEVELAND 3… Nathaniel Lowe blasted a three-run homer in the top of the first inning and DJ Peters added a three-run shot in the ninth as the Rangers stomped the Indians. Lowe went 5-for-5 to lead a 15-hit attack.
HOUSTON 4 – Kansas City 0… Luis Garcia (10-6) pitched four-hit ball over 6-2/3 innings and got help from two relievers in the shutout of the Royals. Carlos Correa knocked in two runs for the Astros.
INTERLEAGUE
Tampa Bay 3 – PHILADELPHIA 1… Nelson Cruz lined a tie-breaking two-run double in the top of the eighth inning and the Rays made it stand in downing the Phillies. Brandon Lowe opened the scoring with an RBI single in the fourth.
N.Y. Yankees 5 – ATLANTA 4… The Yankees topped the Braves and extended their winning streak to 11 games. DJ LeMahieu slugged a tie-breaking two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning. Rougned Odor added a solo shot in the seventh.
Detroit 4 – ST. LOUIS 3… Back-to-back homers by Robbie Grossman and Miguel Cabrera in the top of the third inning staked the Tigers to a 4-0 lead and they hung on to edge the Cardinals. Casey Mize (7-6) pitched three-hit ball over five scoreless innings.
