David Copas

David Copas, 72, passed away at his home in Unionville, Missouri, on Friday, July 30, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He had been battling cancer.

David Guess Copas was born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, on August 12, 1948, the son of Guess Avery and Mildred Alene (Turner) Copas, who preceded him in death. He went to work on the family farm after graduating the eighth grade until he was drafted into the United States Army on April 21, 1968. David made a career out of his military service. He was a platoon sergeant during the Vietnam War and retired in September of 1988 as a Sergeant First Class. He served two tours in Vietnam. David earned his GED while in the service.

David liked to raise livestock and liked all kinds of animals. He did odd jobs around town and liked to garden. David enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to fish with his son. He moved to Unionville in 1995.

David is survived by four children: Daniel (significant other Hazel) Raymond, Iowa; Babette (significant other Roger Kaldenberg) Gilworth, Unionville, MO; Nora (Greg) Wyatt, Indianapolis, IN; and Lora York, Indiana. He is also survived by three brothers, Ronnie, James, and Darrell Ray Copas of Kentucky, and a sister, Betty Fish of Kentucky. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive as well as nieces and nephews and his good friend, Connie Sargent.

David was preceded in death by a sister and several brothers.

Funeral services for David Copas will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville at 3:00 on Monday, August 2, 2021. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial with full military rights will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
