N.Y. METS 4 – Atlanta 2… Domonic Smith’s bases-clearing double in the bottom of the fifth inning carried the Mets past the Braves in the opener of a doubleheader. Jacob DeGrom (7-2) pitched one-hit ball over five innings.
Atlanta 1 – N.Y. METS 0… Ian Anderson (5-3) held the Mets to three hits over 5-1/3 innings and two relievers completed the shutout as the Braves claimed a split of the twinbill. Ronald Acuña Jr.’s homer in the top of the fifth inning accounted for the game’s only run.
ARIZONA 5 – Milwaukee 1… Merrill Kelly (3-7) allowed just a run on five hits over seen innings and the Diamondbacks snapped their 17-game losing streak. Steven Vogt stroked a go-ahead RBI single during a three-run bottom of the second inning.
SAN DIEGO 6 – L.A. Dodgers 2… Yu Darvish (7-2) allowed just a run on two hits and struck out 11 in six innings as the Padres downed the Dodgers. Manny Machado belted a three-run homer to cap a four-run bottom of the first inning. Jake Cronenworth doubled home a run and homered with a runner aboard.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Houston 10 – BALTIMORE 2… The Astros pounded the Orioles and ran their winning streak to eight games. Yordan Alvarez slugged a three-run homer. Starter jake Odorizzi (2-3) pitched five no-hit innings.
TEXAS 8 – Oakland 3… The Rangers cruised past the athletics to win for the first time in eight games. Andy Ibanez and Jose Trevino hit three-run homers. Kyle Gibson (5-0) gave up two runs on five hits over 5-1/3 innings.
INTERLEAGUE
Cleveland 4 – CHI. CUBS 0… Five Indians pitchers combined on a six-hitter in the blanking of the Cubs. Tyler Naylor homered with a runner aboard and Bobby Bradley smacked a solo shot.
MINNESOTA 7 – Cincinnati 5 (12 innings)… Miguel Sanó cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the 12th inning to send the Twins past the Reds. Both teams scored twice in the 10th. Nelson Cruz homered to lead off the second.
