NATIONAL LEAGUE
CHI. CUBS 6 – San Diego 1… The Cubs made it nine wins in 10 games by cruising past the Padres. Anthony Rizzo had three hits, including a pair of doubles and knocked in two runs. Javier Baez homered with a runner aboard. Starter Adbert Alzolay (4-4) gave up a run on three hits over five innings.
N.Y. Mets 7 – ARIZONA 6… Pete Alonso singled home Francisco Lindor with a tie-breaking run in the top of the ninth inning and the Mets hung on to edge the Diamondbacks. Brian McCann belted a three-run homer during a four-run top of the first inning and singled home a tying run in the second.
Washington 5 – ATLANTA 3… Yan Gomes hit a go-ahead two-out solo homer in the top of the eighth inning and the Nationals got past the Braves. Juan Soto slugged a two-run homer.
L.A. DODGERS 14 – St. Louis 3… Cody Bellinger stroked a two-run single and unloaded a grand slam during an 11-run bottom of the first inning as the Dodgers crushed the Cardinals. Mookie Betts went 3-for-4 with a pair of run-scoring singles.
Philadelphia – CINCINNATI (ppd)… Rain in Cincinnati forced postponement of last night’s Phillies-Reds game. It will be made up on June 28.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
BALTIMORE 6 – Minnesota 3… DJ Stewart hit a tie-breaking two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning and Ryan Mountcastle added a three-run blast in the seventh as the Orioles doubled up on the Twins.
N.Y. YANKEES 4 – Tampa Bay 3… The Yankees overcame some sloppy play to top the Rays. Gio Urshela got things going with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Clint Frazier singled home two runs in the fourth.
HOUSTON 2 – Boston 1… Framber Valdez (1-0) held the Red Sox to a run on five hits over seven innings and the Astros escaped with the win. Myles Straw’s infield grounder in the bottom of the fourth inning scored Kyle Tucker with the decisive run.
SEATTLE 6 – Oakland 0… Sean Manaea (4-2) tossed a four-hitter in his second shutout of the season and the Athletics breezed past the Mariners. Mark Canha knocked in three runs. Mitch Moreland homered with a runner aboard.
Chi. White Sox – CLEVELAND (ppd)… Rain in Cleveland forced postponement of yesterday’s White Sox-Indians game. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on September 23.
INTERLEAGUE
TORONTO 6 – Miami 5… The Blue Jays rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and upend the Marlins. Joe Panik’s sacrifice fly brought home Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with the winning run. Bo Bichette legged out a game-tying two-run triple. Randal Grichuk smacked a pair of leadoff homers.
COLORADO 6 – Texas 3… Raimel Tapia’s RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Rockies the lead for good in their win over the Rangers. Tapia singled home a run and Joshua Fuentes homered with the bases empty in the eighth.
