NATIONAL LEAGUE
Washington 6 – ST. LOUIS 0… Joe Ross (1-0) pitched four-hit ball over six innings and three relievers completed the shutout of the Cardinals.  Ryan Zimmerman provided all the offense the Nationals needed with a two-run homer in the top of the third inning.

MILWAUKEE 7 – Chi. Cubs 0… Starter Corbin Burnes (1-1) limited the Brewers to two hits and struck out 10 in a dominant six-inning effort and got help from two relievers in the blanking. Burnes helped himself at the plate with a two-run single. Travis Shaw singled home a run and homered with the bases empty.

SAN FRANCISCO 3 – Cincinnati 0… Johnny Cueto (2-0) left the mound in the sixth inning after holding the Reds to three hits and four relievers did the rest in the shutout. Austin Slater doubled home a run and scored in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Giants.

PITTSBURGH 5 – San Diego 1… Tyler Anderson (1-2) allowed just a run on four hits over 5-1/3 innings and the Pirates cruised past the Padres. Gregory Polanco homered and Adam Frazier stroked a two-run single.

N.Y. METS 5 – Philadelphia 1… Mets starter David Peterson (1-1) surrendered just a run on two hits over six innings and fanned 10 in the win over the Phillies. Jean Segura and James McCann homered for New York.

Miami 6 – ATLANTA 5 (10 innings)… The Marlins recovered to outlast the Braves after blowing an early five-run lead. Jesus Aguilar doubled home Starling Marte with the decisive run in the top of the 10th inning.

L.A. DODGERS 4 – Colorado 2… Justin Turner singled home a run and homered for the Dodgers. Rookie Zach McKinstry also went deep.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Boston 3 – MINNESOTA 2… The Red Sox scored all three runs in the top of the second inning and held on to edge the Twins in the doubleheader opener. Nathan Eovaldi (2-1) allowed two runs on five hits over five innings.

Boston 7 – MINNESOTA 1… The Red Sox cruised past the Twins to complete a sweep of the twinbill and run their winning streak to nine games. Alex Verdugo stroked a tie-breaking two-run single during a six-run top of the fifth inning and added a solo homer in the seventh.

TORONTO 5 – N.Y. Yankees 4… Bo Bichette smacked his second solo homer of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Blue Jays past the Yankees in Dunedin, Florida. Alejandro Kirk homered with a runner aboard.

KANSAS CITY 6 – L.A. Angels 1… Royals starter Brad Keller (1-1) held the Angels to a run on four hits over 5-2/3 innings. Salvador homered and doubled home a run. Carlos Santana drilled a two run homer.

Detroit 6 – HOUSTON 4… The Tigers scored the game’s first six runs and held on to finish off a three-game sweep of the Astros. Jeimer Candelario went 3-for-5 with a two-run single.

Texas 5 – TAMPA BAY 1… Kohei Arihari (1-1) tossed three-hit ball over 5-2/3 innings to earn his first major-league victory and the Rangers cruised past the Rays. Nate Lowe homered to lead off the second inning and David Dahl doubled home two runs for Texas.

CHI. WHITE SOX 8 – Cleveland 0… White Sox lefty Carlos Rodón (2-0) tossed the second no-hitter of the 2021 season and the 20th in franchise history. He lost his bid for a perfect game with one out in the top of the ninth when his low inside pitch nicked batter Roberto Perez in the big toe of his rear foot. Yermin Mercedes belted a three-run homer as Chicago put the game away early with a three-run first.

Seattle – BALTIMORE (ppd)… Rain in Baltimore forced postponement of last night’s Mariners-Orioles game. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
