Helen Louise McAlister

Helen Louise McAlister, 81, of Milan, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Tiffany Springs Rehab Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Helen was born on December 14, 1939 to Francis “Doc” and Elizabeth (Deeds) Laswell in Harris, Missouri. Helen graduated from Newtown-Harris R III in Newtown, Missouri in 1957.
Helen married Percy Vance Webb in 1961, he preceded her in death in 1970. In 1973 she married Melvin “Spanky” McAlister in Milan, MO who preceded her in 2008. She was also preceded by her parents and her brother and his wife, Everett and Marilyn Laswell.

After moving to Milan, she worked in healthcare industry. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide and retired as the Central Supply Manager of Sullivan County Memorial Hospital in 2012 after 34 years in the field. She was a member and past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Post 228 and she often volunteered, and she enjoyed setting up and playing Bingo at the post. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Milan. Helen was an avid board game player who spent much of her free time playing Aggravation with her friends.

Helen was survived by three sons, Joe Webb and wife Carolyn of Portland, Oregon, Madison Webb and wife Erika of Overland Park, Kansas, and Mitchell McAlister of Columbus, Ohio; two stepchildren, Becky Alley and husband Leroy of Georgia and J.C. McAlister and wife Debbie of Milan; grandchildren, Michael Webb, Marcus Webb, Josh Webb, Christopher Webb, Madison Webb II, Ian Webb, Sophia Webb, Aiden Webb, Sara Webb, Lucas McAlister, Andrew McAlister, Carson Hodge, Wesley Hodge, Carie Faulconer, Jeremy McAlister, Lily McAlister, and Drew McAlister; great grandchildren Alex Webb, Avery Mott, Alissa Webb, Abby Webb, Cheyenne Webb, Kasie Webb, Breanne Hodge, Brittany Hodge, Caden Hodge, Cameron Hodge, Mason Shipley, Marcus Shipley, Myranda Shipley, Chandler Faulconer, Hudson Faulconer, and Abel McAlister; great-great grandchildren Mayson Webb, Maddyx Webb and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Helen will be held at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Milan, MO on Thursday, April 1st, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Milan. A visitation is scheduled on Thursday, March 31st from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
